Everyone talks about making Patreon but does anyone here subscribe to other artists? If so, what makes you want to give them money, what value does a Patreon has to have for you to subscribe?

I subscribed to awesome erics patreon. And was disappointed that I did not find what he had teased on his Twitter. So I left a negative comment because the rest of his followers are brain dead monkeys. I never got my refund. These artists suck.
My patreon seems alright, I wish I was better.

like 2 ppl

Nah, they are worthless. Happy to be proven wrong though.

Literally only one person. The vast majority of artists give absolutely no fucking incentive to join theirs. It's actually astonishing seeing subscription size for some of these accounts.
>>

>>8015774
what do you think a patreon should have to be worth your money?
>>
>>8015775
You're asking the wrong audience. People here aren't going to join someone's patreon simply because they're good and they want to help finance more of their art.
I personally sub because the artist has the the right checklists incentives for me
>full access to layered artwork
>full video drawing process
>their ideas and how to's
>can ask them questions for critique
And most importantly
>they aren't an insufferable fucking faggot who shills their patreon and fotm slop, but instead simply draws what they want
>>
>>8015782
and all that for measly 5 dollars hehe
>>
>>8015790
35 aktually. Honestly I'd pay more but she seems content so I can't complain.
>>

At best you get a chance to be the person who leaks the patreon content. I think people know it's more about supporting someone they like although supporting someone because a lot of people already support them and you want to be in the club seems to be stronger. I dunno, maybe Boomer content like the Bloom County guy who posts comic strips on patreon actually use it as their main content platform.

It's the best way to market your own Patreon. I'm subscribed to a bunch of my favorite artists.
You get to be in their group chat + comment sections. Other users might recognize your name or profile pic and check out your own Patreon page.
Just don’t be obnoxious about it. Join because you genuinely like the artist, not because you are trying to leech off their community.
>>
Do people still subscribe to Patreons where there's literally no incentive other than supporting the artist?
>>
>>8015782
Can I have you critique my patreon? I don't feel comfortable sharing here. So could I reach out to you in some way?
>>
>>8015804
Do you have a Discord?
>>
>>8015753
i would subscribe for vidya, music, fine art (with videos about technique and supplies)

not for (((art)))
>>
>>8015813
Yes, I can check it after I finish watching a movie with the family. Can you share yours?
>>
>>8015833
Sure. It's WarriorWeasel
>>
I used to but one 180'd on what they posted so I no longer cared to support them and the other got really gay and also massively reduced his output
>>
>>8015753

i pirate art from patreon with pawchive whenever i can. ain't no one gonna make me pay money for art that's already been drawn.

i sometimes subscribe to patreon if there's no other way, but only to download as much art as possible before terminating my subscription immediately.

subscription services have taken artists away from honest commission work and enabled rent-seeking behavior for stuff they were going to draw for themselves anyway.

I've been tempted to sub to some patreons. But I'm fucking poor. because I'm an unsuccessful artist.
>>
>>8015753
You might give them money just to support them.

Ideally, they could share something more, about how they do something.
If they want to keep the secret, fine, but most of them just scams.
They promise a PSD, but when you look inside there are like 4 layers because everything was merged.
>>
>>8015775
not be art related, retard
>>
>>8015753
Why would an artist subscribes to his/her competitor?
>>
>>8015753
I don't pay for porn.
>>
>>8016104
rich kids
>>
i dont draw but can you send me money
>>
Which one is better, Patreon or Subscribestar?
>>
>>8015753
Something I can't get elsewhere, mostly painting vods. Regular pictures eventually leak.
It's a bit of catch-22 though. The artists I really love and would support are so far past the point of doing commissions and patreon.

Do you guys think there’s a minimum number of followers you should have before starting a Patreon? What kind of tiers, content, and activities do you think are good or bad to offer? By the way, is SubscribeStar a good option, or is it too unknown to most people?
>>
>>8019987
>o you guys think there’s a minimum number of followers you should have before starting a Patreon?
depends on the content/niche. If it's some niche fetish, even a few thousand will work, but some art meme/funny shit, you would a couple a million or 2 to open one.
>>
You should start as soon as possible. You can post for free. People can follow you for free. You don't worry about money when you are starting out. You should treat it as just another website to post on.
The question you should be asking is: How many non-paying Patreon members should I have before I start posting paywalled content?
If you immediately paywall everything, you won't get any non-paying followers and nobody will ever see your paywalled posts.

The pirating I understand, it's the justification that's sub-zero IQ. Just own that you're a dirty thief and carry on quietly. MF said "rent-seeking behavior", its a simple model, the more money the artist you supposedly like the work of gains, the longer they can continue to make and improve it. No one is forcing you to do anything you poor data hoarding victim. If patreon artists are the lowest of the low, you must be way off the map.

Yeah, the number is 0. Just make a page and post stuff, who gives a fuck, it's free.

Maybe one day they'll charge 6$ a month to purge the poirs and maybe obey Korean law but until then it's free storage for your .PSDs

Generally, there is no magic formula on how to monetize your patreon and you have to figure out yourself the best way on how to monetize your "brand" (because that's what you ultimately need to become in the era of social media).

Those who don't want to pay for anything, never will and you don't owe anyone free content, but anything you paywall, should be worth its money.

Remember; you are not an artist, you are a content creator. The sooner you accept that, the sooner you'll figure out your audience, the easier it will all become.

Or just draw porn and offer prioritized comm slots or access to sketches and doodles you don't post anywhere else, for subscribers.
Personally, i find it repulsive to exploit addicts and the mentally ill but that's the porn game.
