Is this a valid improvement for 1 year? I just redrew this drawing from 2025 and I think i've basically only improved in lineart and anatomy granted im not trying to be a master artist or anything I just wanna draw porn
>>8019936It’s improvement, but very little. Step up your game
>>8019938Know any good things I should do? I do anatomy practice but I feel like mentally im stuck by my "draw a line and color it in" mentality which I never grew out of, I watch a speed paint or look at twitter anime artists and it seems like they just treat lines like a sketch and fill out the details with the shadowing and stuff, my brain cant even comprehend that
>>8019936That's great progress for a year.I accuse the first poster of being a nodraw.
>>8020113NTA but great is a really large overstatement. They're essentially within the same level, the proportions are slightly better on the right image but hold the same value, ie. Very little. It also doesn't help that we don't have a larger framework of art to judge and compare. If I had to guess, I'd say OP spent more time playing video games and gooning than actually drawing.
It's a progress so you should be happy. Better question is how many hours you've drawn?1 hour a day? 2h a week? If you did 1 hour a day, it's pretty small. But if you did 2h a week, you can be happy.
>>8019936>>8019941You haven't regressed, so that's a good thing, let me be clear on that.>draw a line and color it inI'm not a purist, but I spent close to 500 hours only doing sketches and line drawings before tackling coloring. Coloring, which is just rendering, is a whole other skill, and if you want to become better at drawing, focusing on trying to get better at rendering will slow yourself down. I'm not saying stay away from it, but it shouldn't be your focus. If you want to become better at drawing, study every artist you like, and copy their drawings. If you want to become better, you'll need to focus on specifically what that entails. There are plenty of cash grab courses online, but you don't need them. Find a book by an established art (except Loomis, that's a meme) and study them. Read everything, copy every single drawing again and again until you get it right and then move on. Don't spend too long on a single drawing, you'll not learn anything new past the 15 minute mark. Optimal drawing speed should be between 8-12 minutes per drawing. If you're studying Bridgman, it's surprisingly easy to do, but someone like Hogarth will be close to impossible, if you want to copy the rendering as well. Break the sketch down into shapes, copy the drawing, assess what you did, move on. All within the 15 minute time span.People often forget that learning is studying, and studying for anything, even stuff you like to do, is both mentally exhausting and boring at times. It's how you know you're learning. It's going to be ass, but if you want to improve extremely fast, do this. Split it between either 50/50 studying and free drawing, or maybe 60/40 or 70/30 depending on how much you want to accelerate the improvement. The important part is to not burn out, remember to take breaks and get plenty of sleep and hydration. That's basically it.
>>8020119It's a bit of a disingenuous time range because a few weeks after that first drawing my PC broke and I barely drew for the whole year and only just started up again a few weeks ago so it makes sense that the progress is so similar, It never crossed my mind.>>8020174 I have been consistently drawing for 3-5 hours a day for over two weeks now, I hate just drawing characters on a white background so I make it a point to do a full drawing with a background every day as well as doing some pose practicePersonally I think my biggest issue is that I have a good fundamental I spent ages doing anatomy and I know where it all goes, but I spent so long on the practice that my actual skills - Lines, Coloring, Rendering are basically the same as they were 10 years ago.I dont have a direct comparison but here's a drawing I did a few days ago up against a drawing from 10 years ago (10 years of mostly drawing every day with a few big breaks in between) -
I also focused on stuff like character design and outfit design as shown by this comparison of my improvement on the design of this girls clothes, but overall its still not good, dont know what exactly it is that im missing
