so…what even is the difference between these and the dollar tree pencils?

Those PARTICULAR pencils? idk, but I’ve never seen a good art pencil that has an eraser on the end.
Main thing about art pencils is that they come in varying levels of lead hardness so you can choose the right pencil for how dark you want to go
>>
>>8028094
Im trying to figure it out for several weeks now.
Mostly it's the quality of wood and the lacquer.
The lead itself, i don't know, maybe there is a slight difference. Maybe not.
>>

I guess that would make more sense if you were doing a fully shaded drawing instead of linework, I see
>>
>>8028109
Even for linework too it’s useful to be able to vary how hard the pencil is. Big difference between thick dark lines, diffuse in the way that charcoal is, vs individual thin faint lines

10% quality
90% marketing

Huh, did they change how they look?
Anyways;
>darker(4b-ish range)
>smooth
>eraser is the decent polymer type
Mind you, I got a few of these back in 2018 so it's subject to change. Even using one alongside a regular 4b there's a noticable difference in how they put down lines; something about the graphite formulation is different. That said, I think they're overhyped.

if you draw with them in moleskine while drinking specialty filter coffee you are eligible for hipster pussy

The most important thing when buying wood pencils is to check that the graphite core is centered in the wood, if it's not it's gonna be a pain in the ass to sharpen. You have to use a blade to sharpen it then.

The cheap dollar tree pencils are likely to have cores off-centre. A proper art pencil will be fine.

Really though, if you're willing to shell out for the overpriced Blacked Wings you would be better off buying a lead holder and and some leads for that. I'd recommend a 2 mm one like the Staedler Mars Technico or Faber-Castell TK 9400.

Wood pencils are quite inferior to lead holders. The manufacturers make more money on the wood pencils in the long run, of course.

I appreciate the input, thanks

You can sniff a freshly sharpened Blackwing and get a nice cedar scent which is the secret to successful drawing

The replaceable eraser is the dumbest shit, as if you're not going to wear the pencil itself down so quick that being able to replace it is pointless. I have one of these that's like 2 inches long and the eraser is 90% intact.

I used the Graphgear for years, but this is just a better pencil. Having a cap is real nice too.

>2b lead
