People with 10k followers and beyond, how long did it take you to grow a following online starting from 0 and what would you realistically recommend to people aiming for the same goal through sharing art online? Also looking for more infos on places like Bluesky, Newgrounds or Pixiv since Twitter doesn't seem like an accurate way of measuring how big your actual audience is.
Er, why should I help an internet stranger? The competition is literally worse than ever.
>>8031921>how long did it take you to grow a following online starting from 0I achieved 10k in 13 months I wanna say.>what would you realistically recommend to people aiming for the same goalDetach your ego from yourself and recognize that the things you draw for yourself are highly unlikely to appeal to other people. An artist who acknowledges this and draws for other people will go farther than anyone else. Many artists are narcs who thinks the world revolves around them to the point that they're above appealing to the algorithm (nobody is above the algorithm)>BlueskyI heard it's easier than Xitter but is apparently actively dying + very different userbase than twitter and has retarded expectations like needing to put alt text on all of your images>NewgroundsNot algorithm based so probably easier?>PixivNot algorithm based so getting instant follows/numbers is easier. Expect to cap out your followers here very early in most circumstances. Decent gallery website, not as decent if you mostly draw porn>RedditYou need to farm karma to post on a ton of subs, many have retarded rules however some specifically encourage uploading your own art. I personally let other people reupload my art there instead of doing all that gay shit myself.
>>8032024>Decent gallery website, not as decent if you mostly draw pornWhat, why? I thought it’s mostly porn and AI.
>>8032028Pixiv has a censorship requirement which I imagine people would dislike, + login requirement and needing to change your settings to reveal R18 content and I believe even changing your account location to Japan.
>>8032032>Pixiv has a censorship requirementOh, it's pretty new. I didn't keep up with the news.
>>8032024>>BlueskyI stopped posting there because I feel like people who go there are mentally insane leftists that like to police what is okay or not okay for art.
>>8033088shut the fuck up bitchwe all know who the censors are and have always been
>>8033095See you don't even need to go there to get an example.
>>8032047It's always been like that.
>>8031921How about weibo aka Chinese twitter? Not sure if I want to appeal to chinks but they're a large audience aren't they? The good artists I follow on X started out on weibo
>>8033356Too many CN sites block foreigners from signing up
>>8032024>apparently actively dyingAny evidence of that
>>8031921What do you do with being famous on social media
>>8033705you get cancelled by clout chasers
>>8033356The Chinese are the last people you want to appeal to. I have seen many a company and person meet their downfall because their work appealed to the Chinese and they broke some unspoken cultural rule. I'm assuming you can't read Chinese, and I have no idea how you'd get anything monetarily from appealing to them, so you are literally only doing it for pure numbers at that point. The great Chinese firewall exists to keep foreigners OUT, not the opposite, so you can't even make a Chinese SNS account anyways.>>8033702>Any evidence of thatI don't know, I don't use Bluesky, that's just what I've heard with everyone pointing out how many people who've moved to BS eventually came back to Twitter.
>>8033702https://bsky.jazco.dev/statsIts been trending downwards ever since the american election
>>8033707Ok then why do all of ic want it
>>8032024>you're a narc if you don't want to create slop for the masses
>>8031921I got my 1st 1k within a month, then stopped posting for like 4 years. Then got to 10k in a month when I started posting again and I recently stopped again. But I draw non-porn lewd so it doesn't really count
>>8031921I used to believe in the "u git followers if u draw fanart and memes, no one cares about your original work bozo" and so i acted accordingly. I drew lots of fanart on twitter for some years, while having modest amounts of likes. The issue? Even if a post of mine got something around 10k likes, even if I put a lot of heart into the fanart (im incapable of drawing stuff i do not care about) i'd always get very very few followers. Friend of mine even made fun of me saying that I'm a "tits and ass" artist.Eventually I stopped caring, and just started drawing only OC stuff and made a small animation. Suddenly from around 6k i came to 10k followers in few months. So my advice is uh, keep drawing and follow your heart? If you're good it works.oh yeah i also got a secret nsfw alt and that got 10k in a matter of weeks, you could also follow your heart and dick as well if you wish to. It is also the account where i get the most commission requests. In my experience Bluesky is the single most useless platform I ever used... unless you make porn.
>>8034574Forgot to mention, the oc stuff was 1000% sfw, so don't believe the myth that you necessarily have to draw smut to make it, you just have to draw stuff that makes your heart excite run and make you shit yourself from the many emotions it gives you! It is not easy, the trick is to thumbnail at least 50 times whatever idea you have and then pick the one you fuck with most
>>8033833NTA but you got some examples of people cancelled by the Chinese internet? I want to read horror stories kek
>>8034881I don't have any specific examples of people since none were personally important enough for me to remember but there are tons of games who've been review bombed by the Chinese if you search for it. As for people I've mostly seen stuff like westerners getting absolutely dogpiled in QRTs by the Chinese/the fact that they can be very nasty in their texts compared to your average English speaker
>>8033356China has 1,4 billion people, but you don't have access to all of them all at once everywhere the movie. On social media, you'll have access to as many people your content is served, which would be 0 to 4k-10k And out of those, apply the Monty Hall problem on to how many use paypal to be able to actually send you moneyYour chinese monetization will be 0
>>8031921I wish I could enjoy WHA but its too trannycoreI dont have 10k followers I just wanted to say that
>>8037351>trannycoreHow so? I was planning to get into it
I don't post on Weibo but my audience are mostly Chinese speakers am I fucked
>>8034000exhibit A
>>8034000You don't have to draw for others but don't go in expecting to grow a big account out of it. That is what we call narcissism. Feel free to post your hecking scrimblo OCs into the void for eternity, there's nothing stopping you from doing that if that's what makes you happy. But if you want a SUCCESSFUL account it's time to start thinking about people other than yourself and how to appeal to the algorithm. You don't have to draw just 'slop', there has got to be at least a few media or niches you enjoy, or you can tailor stuff you already draw to have algorithmic appeal. If you want to achieve success without having to fill out a job application, this is the reality you have to accept.
>>8032024>Detach your ego from yourself and recognize that the things you draw for yourself are highly unlikely to appeal to other people. An artist who acknowledges this and draws for other people will go farther than anyone else. Many artists are narcs who thinks the world revolves around them to the point that they're above appealing to the algorithm (nobody is above the algorithm)disagree, i think it is more about finding people who like the same stuff as you and relate to what you makeyour job is to find where these people are, what tags are they under what sites are they more likely to be onno algo =/= easierpixiv is good for growing an audience and getting love as a smaller artist but newgrounds requires u to be picked for a special program by others in said program to really start getting traction
>>8033705the gameplan is to turn the fame into moneythe steps to get there are gonna be different for everyone
>>8038156>newgroundsI don't know anything about using Newgrounds but I've heard from others that it's fairly easy to get picked for that special program thing. (Assuming you're talking about 'scouting'?)
