What method are you supposed to use when you want to analyze someone's color choices?

I'm not talking about the light, or shadows, or values, but specifically the color gamut, saturation, and hue. If I see a piece I like, how am I supposed to break it down to analyze it and absorb it into my general system of thinking about colors, as opposed to just a specific palette of colors I can refer to, I want it to change my way of thinking about color the same way figuring out form permanently changes the way you think about lines and volume.

Are there any foundational courses and books on this topic, or software tricks that expose the mindset behind a palette?

I like to visualize the colors in an image in a sort of 3D space where it goes from dark at the bottom to light at the top. Saturated/high chroma colors are at the outer bounds, which fade in chroma as they move towards the center, bridged together by gray. Pretty much the OKHSL cylinder. (But not the standard HSL space, since the values for different hues are not perceptually uniform.)

It makes the color relationships easier to see, especially with these types of images where color picking just gives you confusing browns and grays. See the distinct line that forms between teal and burnt orange. That suggests that the color "device" being used here is a binary warm-cool contrast. Switching to the 3D cylinder view reveals the relationship between value and color, in this case the darkest colors are desaturated and slightly warm, the midtones are fairly saturated, and the lightest colors are cool, and actually quite dark on an absolute scale.

Plug in some images you like, observe the "shapes" that the colors form within the color space. Then choose some images that have unappealing colors, notice how their color distributions are scattered or too broadly spread, how they seem to lack intention.

read the color temperature first then rule everything out based on your findings in there
Look at your pic for example, though its a relatively complex composition (because it was taken from vidya and not real life) and have a lot of things going in there, you can still spot the color temp, namely the cooler side of the sea water at the top pic before it was illuminated by the warmer light at the bottom pic
