Draw many expressions roughly until you get near the one you want, then draw the final draft very lightly, committing to the lines that serve the drawing by making them darker.

>>8032313I think it's more important to focus on the actual expressions rather than the forms OF the expressions. You can see a smiley face and understand the expression. Likewise in the forms you showed the disnified versions are simple but very effective and exaggerate to maximize the effect.I think a lot of us fall into the trap of trying to get the forms right when really we're trying to convey the emotions of a character. Once you are able to throw down more than 5-10 expressions you might try to match the forms for realism or whatever. But as you begin don't bother with trying to find the nuances. Just look for the expression and make sure they read correctly.
