Anyone else desperately making art for money and feel like a lying soulless capitalist or imposter syndrome from it? I would say I enjoy making art and often am inspired making it, but this thirst for money and utter desperation makes me question my motivations. I also wonder if my like of it is propped up by my antidepressants, since I didn't like painting prior to taking them. Another concern I have is that if you were to ask me to do studies, learn figure drawing, etc, I would think you're crazy and "it's not that serious". I practiced these things as a youngling but now I feel like it's way too tryhard and would cement my identity into the artist territory way too much, almost like a too scary acceptance of the artist identity. To actually actively practice instead of making paintings for money just seems insane to me. I've gotten through some specific hurdles: >art has no meaning: now I feel as if it does have it>I don't like painting: post antidepressants i rather enjoy it>art is low status: I really don't care anymore and I don't think it is, in fact it's kind of chad not to partake in the rat raceAnother issue is that I make cutesy princesses mainly because I find them hot and my (hypothetical) female audience will think I'm expressing some pure and beautiful femininity, so I'd feel like I'm lying to them about my motivations. Either way I'd appreciate feedback on this issue and if anyone else is in a similar situation. The reason why I'm doing this is because I have a useless major and art is something I'm decent at and you can make some money out of it while not being a slave or doing some gay job with no meaning or purpose. Of course thought, to some extent it's even more fascistic to enslave your souls expression to the capitalist market for survival, so to some degree doing art means selling your soul even harder than being an office worker for example, where you're not actually supposed nor expected to enjoy working there.
>>8032897I don’t think about this kind of stuff. Try therapy
Your paintings are incredible. Although, honestly, I’m less interested in being your male muse and more interested in taking you out for coffee and finding out what makes the woman behind the canvas smile. And yes, I promise not to ask you to paint me. ;)
>>8032897>I would say I enjoy making art and often am inspired making it, but this thirst for money and utter desperation makes me question my motivations. If making art is your job, no one expects anything different. The only people who would talk about 'selling out' or whatever are hippy-dippy shitheads, and unless they're living off the land, they're hypocrites. You need money to live, you need to live to make art. Don't worry about it.>I also wonder if my like of it is propped up by my antidepressants, since I didn't like painting prior to taking them.Who cares? You like painting at this point and time; so make paintings. If you get off the anti-depressants and no longer like painting, that's fine, just move to a different medium. You act as if this is some moral quandary, when it isn't in the slightest.>To actually actively practice instead of making paintings for money just seems insane to me.Actually doing is a form of practice in itself, so whatever. If your content with your own art, it's a non-issue.>Another issue is that I make cutesy princesses mainly because I find them hot and my (hypothetical) female audience will think I'm expressing some pure and beautiful femininity, so I'd feel like I'm lying to them about my motivations. Why do you care what women think? Just make what you like, and if you get laid because of it, that's on them for liking your art so much, and reading thing into you that were never there. You're over thinking things. Sure there's likely going to be someone who takes issue with your mindset or practices, but there's always going to be someone taking issue with anything, even the most benign of stances and practices.Don't worry, be happy, and keep making art so long as it makes you happy.
>>8032897making money off of art is not inherently capitalist. you can easily sell commissions or .ZIP folders on gumroad. artists only enter evil-capitalist territory when they start a patreon or other service where they use rent-seeking behavior to extract regular income from their fans.
>>8032897Maybe you should quit art and become an author
>>8032897>be hobbyist>Make money from art>Wow, give me more money?>Thanks! *Feels grateful*>Make more art>Wow! Repeat.Pure art enjoyer here. And to your question: Fuck your conceptual art, you post modernist cock sucking deconstructed feminist karen art gallery cucks, you unoriginal piece of chemical bag, even a minecraft NPC are more original than you. You soulless fuck, you dare to call yourself an artist? Lick my hairy yellow balls and tongue my anus, that is the only good thing you are for, your tongue in my anus. You don't get to call yourself an artist, the title is given to you, you can inspired to be one, but you don't identify yourself as one, and you sure as hell don't think of being one, you are either are one or you are not. Stop overthinking, choose to be happy, be like me, do art happy, get paid to do art, grateful and happy. There's no if or else, there's no identity, no questioning, no deeper meaning, fuck you, and fuck your identity politics, fuck you and your unoriginal thoughts. Pure art enjoyer just enjoy art, that is it. Be pure like me, or quit.

>>8035496"capitalism" is when people make money unethically. doing honest business, paying your employees well, and charging reasonable prices are not capitalism. is there any other definition that i'm unaware of?
>>8032897No it’s fine. You can make art for money. It’s ok.You should get off the Jew pills though, they’ll poison your mind
fuck you OP. it's because of this sentiment that art has no respect from the general public. we should just do things for free as a form of self-expression? that we should consider ourselves fortunate to be able to provide charity in the form of art? i don't event want to express myself in my art. the idea of art as free in terms of expression and in fee was created simply as a way for avant-garde artists to deride others for making money so they can secure the money themselves. in the same way, "capitalism" was just a strawman by leftists so they can seize control themselves and do the exact same thing that they accuse the other side of doing. it doesn't exist in the way it was formed up and continues to be conceived of. but i can understand why you feel that way. you don't even love art. training to better your craft is how you show love to your craft and respect to it and your audience. >>8032923very indian post.
