So how did you get into vgen? Lately twitter and reddit keep telling me the process is rigged.

Bump
>>
Ask your followers for a code. There are always a few spare invites flying around. If you don’t have any followers, you are not ready to be on VGen.
>>
because it is
you ain't getting in if you're part of the usual supsects
>>
>>8033247
>you are not ready to be on VGen
>>8033234
While not wrong, I advise you to keep trying and begging. We have seen patreon, youtube, and other platform making things more difficult for newer creators. While older accounts are grandfathered in and keep access to now-removed features.
Remember the Art of War.

I don't even know what vgen is.
>>
As the anon above said, it is to some extent.
You need a code to join the site, and this acquired either through another person on the site, or one of their occasional code giveaways.
Once you've joined the site, then you need to get verified, because I think they take a bigger cut until you are? Anyway, the way to get verified is by making a certain amount of money in a certain amount of time -- which is tricky, because you're not verified, so that would ward people off... UNLESS, you ask your own fans to buy your commissions through the site. So it acts sort of like a racket that forces you to bring in new customers to the site.
There are videos about what you have to go through to join VGen, so look them up.

This all said, it does act as a deterrent to Scammers and AI users (also scammers). If someone gave you a code, they'll get banned along with you the scammer for giving you them the code. A scammer is also less likely to have the friends and fans needed to meet the revenue limit to become verified.
So they're a site which really packs some punch in regard to dealing with scumbags, though I'm unsure if it's really used all that often. I don't hear people talking about their vgen commissions, like they do with skeb, for example. So I'm dubious if all the effort is worth it in the end.

Being on Vgen will not get you clients. That traffic has to come from your own websites.
You are competing with hundreds of thirdies over the few people who commission random artists from the Vgen frontpage for $15.
>>

>You are competing with hundreds of thirdies over the few people who commission random artists from the Vgen frontpage for $15.
Honestly, there needs to be a first worlders only freelance site, where a minimum wage is enforced, or something. I don't blame the thirdies for charging a price they think makes them competitive, because it obviously does, I blame the traitorous shitheads who'd rather spend a bit less, rather the pay one of their fellow countrymen and actually contribute to the economy of their own country.
Even paying a foreigner, so long as they're first world, is more likely to come back to your country than it is if it goes to India or China. At the very least, it's not going to artifically deflate people's incomes.

>"B-b-but that's racist!"
If Japan is allowed to do it with Skeb, I say we're allowed to do it too. Make a site that IP bans the thirdies from signing up as artists... though they're welcome to pay for commissions if they want.
>>
>>8033299
Just do it. I heard you can make anything with AI nowadays.
>>
>>8033273
all i remember hearing about regarding vgen is vtuber stuff like avatars and whatnot
>deterrent to scammers
scams apparently still happen on there

vgen acts more as a middleman with more extra steps than needed that don't even work most of the time
>>
Why would you want to use a site where there is an even bigger fee, your work will be displayed next to permabegs and AI tracers (I'm serious, scroll for a few minutes on the home page and you'll find at least one obvious tracer alongside hundreds of childlike drawings), and one retarded client can permanently fuck over a perfect 5* rating with a single low review? The site doesn't even hide your info from your clients which would be the only good reason to use a site like this. So much for an "artists first" site. Literally zero reason to use it.
>>
>>8033308
I guess its good if you want to cram in a bunch of information or do multiple different styles of commissions. You could still just make your own website for this but I guess most people won't. .png with prices + paypal is all most people need.
>>
>>8033234
get good
>>

>The site doesn't even hide your info from your clients which would be the only good reason to use a site like this.
Only if you used paypal, right?
>>
>>8033313
nta but they have withdraw options other than direct paypal and stripe? is this new?
>>
>>8033320
Huh? It’s just paypal and vgen payments (stripe).
>>
>>8033234
what the fuck is vgen

Vgen is a site that somehow inserted itself as the middle man between artists and their follower

>follower wants a comm
>For some unknown reason, you direct them to vgen
>Vgen provides the service of....?
>do the comm
>Get payed
>Vgen take a cut of your comm
>paypall also takes a cut of your comm
>This is good because... It just is you antisemite

Artists truly are the stupidest people on earth
>>
>>8033347
Some people want to avoid paypal because of horror stories and bad experience.
Vgen is one of the possible ways to avoid that. Also the supposed anti-AI stance is nice, even if it’s just slightly more than lip service.

no reason to put anti sediment in there but pretty much
The problem with the modern art sphere that its way too many kids and clinically retarded individuals too active and wanting desperately to make a buck, so the current online art sphere is a paradise for anyone that isn't brain damaged or at least knows how money works.

They're treating the page like a trading site that offers fuck all, doesn't quality control for shit and only lets in chosen individuals partake; that means you, that makes the edgy comics or don't do the heckin kyuute kawawii sugoi wholezoms gay vtuber art, will be discriminated against and barren entry i.e. gatekept, hence it's just another cabal of [for a lack of a better terminology}; megaleft leaning turbofaggots.

If you were to make the opposite of vgen, which would be prime newgrounds, they call that platform all sort of bad names.
And iirc that did indeed happen with newgrounds

Also how come there isn't a vgen for nsfw/adult content?
With all the apparent adults in the nsfw niche, isn't there one that actually knows that the banks are the evil puritans that hate sex that all the underage porn addicts meme about?
>>
VGen Payments doesn’t work with PayPal. If your clients want to pay with PayPal (which most of them do) you might as well not use VGen.
VGen loves buyer protection and telling your clients to open disputes if they don’t like that the boobs weren’t big enough after the fifth revision.
Use Stripe. Don't enable Paypal payments.

mixed messages here

The entire internet payment situation makes me seethe so much. Knowing that i'm getting dicked by fanbox and then getting dicked by paypal again before money finally gets into my account is so retarded. Then if I ever actually make enough that money is gonna get dicked again by the government, which I can't be that mad about because everyones getting dicked in that case but seriously, surely this cannot be the best possible way to operate things. Receiving money should make me happy not sad.

Money handlers have been a scourge since money was invented. We don't hate them enough.
>>
>>8033234
How much of a permabeg are y'all that you can't win the challenges ? i don't mean to be an asshole to other participants but 95% of submissions are from people who put almost no effort, the vast majority are beginners and i win every time i submit it's literally so fucking easy just be original and put some elbow greas damn
>>
>>8033444
taking a look at the winners everyone's better than me can i see an example of your work

sure, can't show my winners lest an autist doxx me or something but i can show you some stuff i never posted other than here

the first is unfinished gooner bait i was trying something new with the rendering and second is just a clean sketch redraw of someone's OC it's not my character i just wanted to explore it
>>
File: eris.jpg (594 KB, 1560x2854)

>>8033449
these are far from what i posted though they are unfinished and didn't take me nearly as much time to do

i can't tell you how to win but i can give you some pointers that could help

first avoid anything remotely nsfw because then your work is hidden behind this blurry window and there's a billion submission every month and it's only increasing so people don't have the patience to sift through 2000+ images, also because the site is broken and slow as hell to load, every months i see like one hundred edgy teens do something with blood in it for no reason

second think just a little outside the box, look at what everyone's doing and try to go another way, try to think of something fun you'd want to explore that you don't see too many people doing because this will set you apart (this point is super fucking easy because a good 90% of submissions are the same anime pixiv style art, anything a little outside anime will set you apart)

third do something big and bold or something cute, remember this is a popularity contest so make something people like, in my case i did both i tried to go for sfw big scene with something cute in it

fourth and most important, follow the fucking rules of submission, i once drew their mascot for the easter challenge and forgot to credit but these motherfuckers canceled my submission at the last second so i couldn't resubmit, if your thing is not original then always give credit
>>
>>8033574
and lastly put some effort and have fun because challenges are monthly so you have a lot of time to make something really cool, i usually only make barely finished drawings and work on some aspects i'd like to improve when i actually have the time to draw but when i went for a challenge i went full out, spent hours and hours on one painting and went for complex scenes, rendered background, my first win has a whole crowd of fully rendered characters with background in perspective

that's another thing too i'd recommend exercising your art skills and putting a little background in there i know we all like the convenient white void but if you want to set yourself apart that's a very easy thing to do

only 10% win but 10% of 1000 is still a 100 so you don't have to be a master just have to be good enough and appeal to an audience
>>
Man, we really need to ban this kind of business/money threads. It's always so cynical and bitter.

god forbid you are not glazing every shitty platform, getting hyped for every single new product, falling for every scam, being wowedamazedballs at everything epic content creators shit in your mouth, clicking on every single ad while sucking vtuber dick in 2026

not them, but mad respect to you for these fantastic posts with great art to boot. thanks so much!
>>
>>8033234
I dont know much about it but if its gatekeeping bad artists then it is rigged, that's the point.
>>
>>8033347
I think the appeal of vgen is you can't get clients, so vgen is bringing them to you by vouching for you (since you are on vgen and passed their tests). I agree that if you already have people comming you then there's no point to joining vgen.

but maybe thirdies have a hard time getting through payment processors.

thank you
