why is op lo ig?
I bought a canvas work at a yard sale on a whim and after bringing it home I found an info card behind the frame. It included the name of the artist and work along with the date it was finished (1986). Out of curiosity I tried to look for any information online about the artist but haven't had any luck learning anything about them. They could just be a small local artist who didn't have many works or weren't prominent enough to warrant the attention but any suggestions to learning about an artist who doesn't have easily accessible information online?
>>8034927Try the local Council on Aging or whatever it is called near you. There will be a few old ladies there that have made it their business to know who does what in town for decades.Try your local Cultural Council, too, if you have one. If your state is like mine, they have some money put aside for art funding, and a gaggle of local busybodies decide who gets what. Or you could contact a few local older artists directly and see if they know them. Also, my town has multiple facebook pages where all the gossips hang out. I'll bet yours does too.My town gazette has a fella working there whose job is to advertise community events: plays, gallery showings, etc. He's exhausting to talk to but if I were desperate, I'd give him a shot. And of course, you've checked in with the person who sold you the painting?
How do i find someone (digital) to give a personal art mentorship 1 to 1 that doesn't cost an arm and a leg. I'd really like to start expanding my skillset but I feel like I'm hitting a wall with my self teaching or if not a wall then a massive learning cliff which i cant really push myself over
I'm trying to find a hobby that doesn't involve screens. I'm 30, if I doodle or draw for an hour 10 years straight will I see any improvement at all? Alternatively, I could pick up a language but I'd like to do something that doesn't involve reading either.
>>8035006>someone (digital)Try ChatGPT? Any "mentor" who is looking for pupils is just looking for an additiional revenue stream. Build a portfolio, try to get some eyeballs on it, make connections. The important thing is you have to demonstrate that you're really putting in the work and not looking to ride somebody else's coattails.
>>8035272I don't see why it's important that you improve if it's only a hobby, but I would hope there's some improvement after roughly 3,650 hours.
>>8035289There's a baseline of ability I would like to reach at some point.
>>8035272>if I doodle or draw for an hour 10 years straight will I see any improvementnot linear but some
>>8035295Well that's depressing, basically I can never hope to be good at it? It's just doodles forever? Well thanks anon, I'll look at /mu/ then
>>8035294I would say enough that it's not embarrassing to show people your work
do you listen to anything while you draw?
>>8035314hour is not much, and in mu if you just get some instrument and do random sounds for a hour I'm not sure it will get you anywhere. both need some involvement and study for development
>>8035326Well maybe I'll give it a shot anyway and try to find time if I like it. I did read the sticky and there's no way I can fit 4 hours a day into a hobby. Maybe 2 max but even that's cutting it
When does the suffering stop?
>>8035343When you put it onto the page. Unless you're digital. Then it never stops.
>>8034959Those are great suggestions, hadn't considered contacting local arts orgs (we have a few in our area). At the time I bought it I didn't ask any background info such as where they got it themselves. Best option I think would be to ask them where they bought it and go from there. Much appreciated!
>>8035387You could also see it as an excuse to get to know some of those people. I tried to track down a children's illustrator though their co-authors, once. Never found them; they're probably gone. But some of the authors I spoke to were really friendly.
>>8035285>ChatGptThank you for letting me know not to listen to you beyond the second word, saved me some time
Why are some zoom percentage outside of picrel defaults make the canvas blurry?
In terms of oil, watercolor, and say acrylics; which type of paint is the most realistic/vibrant?Currently I’m tying my hand at oils. If I don’t like it, I may try watercolor.

Was I going to get scammazed? pls helpI rarely post on my twitter, just random whatever drawings, someone whom I follow sent a message. He just started asking me if I had a Paypal and if I could give him my username to send me money, I dunno why.I just said no and that was it, but what was that, is it common in social media?
>>8035697anything is double with oils, watercolor, pens
>>8035797What do you mean?
>>8035697Depends what you mean by vibrant. Oils give you the greatest depth of tone and hues because you can mix the most complicated palette. But it's also very labour intensive and requires lots of prep and components like linseed oil and waiting for the canvas to dry before you add a layer. (You can do the Bob Ross method of quick slap on oils but it's really not using the medium to its potential). Acrylics are the most user friendly since they're plastic based. Very easy to the slap on, quick drying, easy to manipulate, very quick to work with as you can just dilute with water. But the depth of colour is nowhere near. Watercolors, Gouache and Aqueous Inks all have their own distinct feel that's a lot lighter. Less depth, less weight, but the brushwork you can execute is distinctive and full of character. It all depends on the kind of work you want to produce. I'd say if you're getting into painting, start with acrylics, it's very cheap and easy to draw with and you can afford to fuck up a lot.

So, like a beg friend of mine told me a perspective tip that a person views the world in a cone shape. If a person views the world in a cone shape then why isn't everything adjusted to match the cone's contours? Also, I'm kind of new to perspective. So I need a video course and some books. I tried reading the perspective made easy book but the instructions of the exercises don't have any demonstration. So im looking for a very good course in perspective.
>>8035892It SORT of is, but it’s so subtle you don’t really notice it
>>8035892
is it productive to go on danbooru and just analyze the pictures and all of that?
>>8035914it is more productive then scroll but less then drawing.
I think I’m burnt out on drawing I keep feeling like I’m forcing myself to draw what should I do besides kill myself?
>>8035914No
Is it a bad idea to change the default clip studio UI color? Something about neutral colors being good as a starting point
This was the first post on /ic/?
>>8035892I'm probably explaining this a bit wrong, but think about it this way. You're only ever focusing on the very center of that cone of vision and that's where traditional perspective rules hold up.
>>8037874t doesn't matter where you focus. At close range, anything bigger than your head will obstruct your vision. At an infinite distance, the bottom of the cone becomes enormous, and anything of finite size will become a dot relative to the size of the field - even galaxies.
>>8037874He seems to be confusing:There is a world and I can see a conical portion of it.with:There is a world and the portion of it which I can see it is squashed and stretched into a cone shape.
>>8037890Well, yeah l, no shit. This is why we practice observational drawing from a distance somewhere between "one inch from your face" and "infinitely far away to the point where it's a dot". Put down that good 'za, anon. It's not helping you.
>>8035892You really shouldn't be calling you friends beg if you can't understand something this simple while they can
How can I have my OC uploaded (by someone else) to boorus?
there as a filesharing site used here a lot, specially on the reference sharing threads. No login, huge size limit, links would expire after a month. Anybody remember the name? Sounds like pomf.io to me but it wasnt that. Thanks.
