I've been drawing for a long time now. I clearly enjoy it if I've stuck around this long. I'm just frustrated. Prior to before I'd have to hustle and pull teeth from other popular artists for 80 likes. I used to draw a variety of fanart for games that I played. Sure, you'll attract a few followers that are primarily shitty artists. But they'll never boost you. I've switched over to game dev since then but haven't reached the casual market yet. Anon this is quite literally one of the worst things someone can do in attempt to grow their account. I have no idea why this strategy is so popular. You do not want 'dead' followers that ignore everything you post and may actually go as far as to manually mute your account because they only follow you for self serving reasons. Muting is confirmed to fuck you over, and I imagine having hundreds of followers who ignore you entirely also sends a bad message to the algorithm. Now that I think about it, I'd honestly suggest OP consider making a new account because you can only unfollow a certain number of accounts a day before getting shadowbanned, so it would take many days to cut that 800 following number down to acceptable levels. Plus OP posts porn so he's already shadowbanned, so he'd probably get an even worse shadowban if he unfollowed too many people in one day. Not to mention following and being followed by so many people outside of your target niche definitely confuses the algorithm. I can go on and on about how stupid this strategy is.

You will see people do this repeatedly until they are following thousands of people, very often triggering the follow ratio deboosting in the process, and the only thing they get from it is dead followers that don't interreact with their posts. You really shouldn't underestimate the psychological aspect either. People just don't like following accounts that have really close follow/follower ratios or more following than follwers. Because at that point you don't look like a famous cool person and their lizard brains won't be tricked into following you. Plus the fact that your account will look like a consumer/fan account rather than a content producing account.

Something funny that you will notice if you start a new Twitter account, is that whenever you get many followers at once, at least a few will be those artmoots people and will always unfollow you if you don't follow back in a few days.
