It feels like I'm committing a cardinal sin. If I don't partially trace or overlay my drawing over the reference and then adjust based on that, then my proportions end up COMPLETELY off from what the reference image has. Is this normal, or am I fucked? I've been drawing for 7 years digitally but very sparsely so, maybe one drawing every few months.
>>8036756"One drawing every few months" is basically the same as never drawing at all, you'll never improve at that rate. You can get to the point where you can copy references accurately without overlaying, and even draw from imagination accurately, but it takes a shitload of time and practice.
>>8036756just accept being a coomer goon with a drawing hobby to get off.simple as.
>>8036756>maybe one drawing every few months
I think you should be able to just make shit up when it's a simple pose and angle but not only am I too /beg/ to have opinions everyone traces these days. Before 3D models became convenient capeshit was carried by some dudes filming themselves jumping on trampolines all day, things like buildings and cars are systematically traced from photos and these days some dudes just leave the 3D models in.
>>8036807If he is above the buildings then what are his webs attaching to? This shit is retarded.
>>8036810taller buildings or this is just the top of his swing
>>8036810hes clearly moving from downtown to maybe union square to midtown properdumb ass
I trace a 3D model of the head, and sometimes the hands, but nothing else.WIP: spent like an hour gettin this 3D head to be how i want it for this OC

>I have toNo ye don't>It feels likeFacts don't care about your feelings>I'm committing a cardinal sin.No you just suck, and that upsets you.>If I don't partially trace*if I don't partially cheat>Is this normal, or >am I fucked? >I've been drawing for 7 years digitally but very sparsely so, maybe one drawing every few months.Practice does not make perfect, practice only makes permanent.Perfect practice makes perfect and tracing ain't it twat. Pic related. It's me
>>8036756you are using a crutch. but unless you want to draw with crutches forever you will have to learn to do away with this bad habit. learn what you are drawing. practice. if you don't think we can't tell, we can.
>>8036756Havent you ever heard if that light projector thing the renaissance artists used? They was tracing n shit too
>>8037349yeah, but you dont need it. most of them prolly didnt need it either. lol some likely did, but lol on them. tracers fucked up all the time too. moving things, fucking up the scale - like that other thread that has the painting of the kid with the huge head
