How old is this work? Looks like something that could have been published in some 90's magazine like Heavy Metal.

>I'll take it as a compliment. I like heavy metal magazine
Yeah, you can take it as a compliment. Though, my main inner question is if this kind of art is still relevant and apt for any success in the "market" nowadays. It feels like only in France, Japan and some European little markets indie artists with this style can have a chance.
>>
>>8037651
i don't hope for any success, I just wanna finish shit and if I sell a few copies then I would honestly be happy. Maybe you're right about france liking this kind of stuff
>>
>>8037652
>Maybe you're right about france liking this kind of stuff
I know I'm right. Your stuff is the kind of art that gets compiled and published in fancy "coffee table" style books. Though you may need at least 200 pieces for that.
This is excellent work, if presented to the right crowd in the right way.
>>
>>8037653
>This is excellent work
thanks anon, i appreciate the kind words...
>>
Looks not bad. Looks like your objection was to make good art.
But then, you decided to photograph it in a dark room with a potato?
Like, come on. Make a proper presentation, do clean photos or scans, crop the images... otherwise i don't feel a desire to read it, honestly.
>>
>>8037671
>Looks like your objection was to make good art.
very much so
>But then, you decided to photograph it in a dark room with a potato?
I apologise for that kek, yeah it is shit but I will eventually scan it all, I might just buy own because i don't like going to the library for it

You have a tendency to make backgrounds too heavy. Compositions should be readable even as thumbnails, but in your OP pic, the trees look like clouds of smoke and you barely notice the characters. The backgrounds should be much more subtle, there should be a hierarchy between the foreground and the background regarding values and amount of details, and you should save the strongest colors for the characters in the foreground.
Basically, your illustrations are an unreadable mess.
>>
>>8037710
I attempted to try and make the characters feel real in their setting. You're right though, I should be thinking about composition, hierarchy and how it relates to story telling. Its been lacking but I just need to think and learn how to do fantastical settings that aren't a mess and helps tell the story
>>
>>8037715
Well, if you want to do something weird and play against the "rules" (which is to say what is naturally appealing) for the sake of originality, it's your choice. But i have to give you my honest first reaction.
Another thing, in cases where the character reads well because the background doesn't stand out (as it should be) like here >>8037600, you seem to use the same flat color for the entire body and face, which sugests that construction needs more work (different planes of a constructed volume should hold different values of whatever hue).
Try to make the character stand out from the background AND try to make the face stand out from the body.
>>
i like these but holy shit how can you figure out appealing illustration but you cant take a decent picture of it? get a lamp or something damn.
>>
I've seen you around here and you tend to float in the same threads as me so I see all the influences you're pulling from, so this is right up my alley, so I'm a bit biased contentwise. I'm glad you're still working on stuff. Your panelling hits a good middle ground where it's not overly repetitive but it's also not showy and stays in service of the story. I like that you're constantly going for ambitious angles and shots. I agree that the readability in your color work is hit or miss, but if >>8037587 is the oldest work then you're trending in a better direction. You might want to check out Blacksad as a somewhat more modern influence. I can stare at any panel in a Blacksad comic and it's like I'm looking into a little world on the page.

these rule, kinda reminds of vaughn bode or some 70s thing as others have mentioned.
nice poses and dynamic angles, very animated and feels alive

the colors look great, is this watercolor or inks?
>>
>>8037710
i would have guessed op is trying to make the background more focal so the characters lost within the landscape..
also i think the trees have a cool abstract quality which draws the viewer in, instead of having something immediately discernable..
personally i would make put more focus into the background, and then maybe scale down the figures even more

i do have lamp, thats where the light is coming from, i guess i have a shaky hand when taking photos
>>8037794
are you the one who rec'd blacksad before? I haven't gotten to it, I've been reading witzend magazine and some tintin but the artwork of blacksad is quite impressive, the colouring is good and I especially like the drawings of the character being surrounded by a lively setting. I'll study some of that. Do you think my style is too 70s and older?
>>8037972
the vaughn bode influence is super obvious.
thanks anon.
yes most of the colour has been done in watercolour, one of those cases full of different pallets, i've had it for a long time. I do also use acrylic paints, markers and colour pencils
>>8037974
I was trying to do a theodore kittelsen thing. I really liked those illustrations of those snowy scenes
>>8038022
> are you using a torch here?
its my lamp mr anon
>>
>>8038230
oh yeah i see the Theodor kittelsen influence, the patchy snow blanket vibe.

keep it up, the stories look pretty funny and the style works. its kinda moebius mixed with fritz tha cat, again that throwback undergroudn style to when comics were cool
it would be cool to see more or these pages scanned..
