Guys what features should a frame by frame video player have besides the basics? All the ones on Android are buggy and thus I can't reliably jump between frames and I can't carry my pc every to use keyframe mP so I have decided to just vibecode my own app to be specialized for my needs.

>>8041208I give up, drawing with vectors is hard as shit. What else can I do to make my drawings look smooth? When I try to draw on a raster layer my lines come up a jittery and squiggly.
>>8042142anon-san the quality you describing as "smooth" is just a highrez drawing with anti-aliasingits the merge thing pixels do to obsecure the inherent limitation of square grid screens by reserving ~1-2 pixel threshold around hard color changes with a mix/merge of the two colorsThe higher the resolution of the image the smoother/more seamless the transition from one color to anotheri'd reccommend doubling your current project resolution it should ease some of that jittering also use a brush with anti-aliasing preset but beware it will maket bucket tool coloring a real paini'd reccomend watching the dong chang channel's breakdown of anime compositing.tldr of the japanese method is they use brushes without anti-aliasing and do the coloring in that state. Then they add the anti-aliasing in post via smoothing filters to achieve that finished smooth lookultimately it all comes down to File resolutionhigh rez = more space to obsecure color merge hence crispier lines lower rez = less space hence choppier/jarring lines

So, I'll include a bunch of skewed angles, scenes from the past with regular clothes, and also keep the camera away whenever he is sprinting so that the protagonist can both look faster and less detailed. He also broods a lot so I can just draw him standing there doing nothing and it fits his character.

Am I crazy as an animator for being excited to see AI being used like this?https://x.com/knightama/status/2103574269133468003This to me feels like what the movie Klaus did, where the entire movie was handdrawn 2d animation, but they created a program that could apply shadowing to a frame when you manually put in the right calculations for where it should be. They applied shadowing that way for every frame of animation, and it created consistent and detailed shadowing that would simply not have been possible to do by hand without the process taking 10 years. Using AI in this way, feels like an automated way of doing what SPA Studios did with shadowing in Klaus. If this was refined and made mainstream, it could mean SO much time and money that would usually be spent on outsourcing work to Indians and Koreans would be saved from the budget of 2d animation. Not only that, indie animators would be able to make much longer animations by themselves without needing to rely on investor demands to afford outsourcing.
>>8050806
>>8050806Aside from the AI post still having that gross uncanny feeling and how I don't want to look at it long enough to see what extra shit it's doing to cause that, while earlier on I myself suggested that something like this might be useful (although in far more limited form) diffusion as a concept feels like a dead end to me.I think something closer to a 'digital robot' (I'm no /g/fag I don't know proper the terms) would be more the direction I'd prefer to see. Where it's something that can navigate a canvas or timeline with limited output ability, using the fill tool to colour things based on a model sheet. An auto clicker with a guidance system.
>>8050811these two are not comparing the same frame
>>8048399I agree. Why go for a director anyway? Usually the best worker is not the director but some grunt/low-ranking manager, that's just how it is, you don't ask the owner of a coal mining business about how to mine coal properly. Somebody can be really exceptional manager and still lack knowledge about the actual work, which is what you want when you study animation. I know that he was a grunt at some point as well but he did not become famous thanks to being the best animator around
a lot less animating in these threads recently
>>8050806My biggest issue with AI isn't that the results look like shit, it's that the users are retarded and I don't trust them. they regularly leave abhorrent bullshit and glaring errors in that not only any human artist would have fixed or not made in the first place, but the model itself would probably fix if you told it to and gave it ten minutes and maybe five extra bucks in tokens.Take the other weekly AI slop with the umbrella guy https://x.com/antrofrog_/status/2103854300799565967 most of the problems stem from the prompter being an illiterate ape with no soul or whimsy. He's using a model smart enough to have object permanence, not switch artstyles every four seconds, give the guy a third arm for no reason and such, and he could either fix all the bullshit still going on in the video in a few extra passes or work around it by changing shots for ones AI is capable of the same way a horror movie uses camera trick to hide the fact the monster looks like shit but this orangutan just ships this as is and hopes you're also too stupid to notice. The sameway codefags have to write compilers despite nobody having needed to write a compiler himself since the 80s just to have an idea how computers actually work, I believe any AI artist who hasn't spent a few months drawing walk cycles and basic shit and looks for a job needs to be shot, skinned and sodomized in any order the animation director sees fit.But if you start putting AI in stuff to "lower budgets" the unsodomized will unfortunately start getting jobs and fuck everything up. Even for indie shit, they'll saturate the market with slop. Take those fruit brainrots, I'm sure some of them are watchable because the guy spent ten minutes to write a plot instead of being a literal slave in a mauritanian content farm but nobody's watching all the slop just to get to his.

>>8051308Fuck off retard
>>8051070I'm waiting on my pen to finally leave florida
>>8051070sorry my dude, my only recent works would risk me getting banned for being blatantly furry nsfw
>>8051308That is a very fair take and I agree, I also don't want AI ran by people who don't know shit about art and drawing taking over the animation industry. What I really want is for people who do know how to draw and animate, to be able to utilize AI for the things that's holding them back from making larger projects. I think training an AI on your own art and to follow your handdrawn keyframes and to perhaps also use colored and shaded keyframes as guides for it to color and shade the rest of the animation, would ethically and aesthetically be the best possible use of AI to streamline the creation process and cut down on the need for outsourcing such tasks. My fear however, is that due to the widespread fear and disdain for AI usage in the west... the east is going to be the ones experimenting the most effective AI usage for animation. If the west aren't the first ones to set the standard for efficient and arguably ethical use of AI to make popular 2d animated movies and television shows, then those standards might instead be set by Japan/China/Korea who cares much less about ethical usage and more about efficient usage. Basically if we refuse to use AI because we don't want AI slop to dominate the market, then I think the Eastern countries will use AI slop to dominate the market on their terms and we will have to start copying what they're doing or we won't be able to compete with them.
Storyboard Pro is absolute dogshitHad to fix up a colleague's "animatic" file for a deadline and gosh this montrosity is so fucking unwieldly to uselike t fuck you mean there is only one layer in the timrlinr and bgs are all sequestered into the indivifual "panels"idk why they insist on using this software for animatics manFlash in infinitely superior in usability even if its brush is a uncoordinating prick
Can AIniggers just buy an ad alreadywe actually animate things itt instead of waxing poetic about gay AI ethic n faggot philosophy
>>8052291id be more sympathetic if they at least posted projects they were working on even if theyre slop instead of "guys what do we think about current ai conundrum?????"
>>8052306its just shills manthese niggers are insecure about the ai bubble poppingso they use bots to fake mass interest in this shit so daddy american government won't stop the flow of subsidizationsy think any of this data centre shit is profitable on its own?they need to feign their importance as "le cutting edge strategic tech" so america keeps throwing taxpayer's money at them
>>8052260>like t fuck you mean there is only one layer in the timrlinrFeels like this is a very rudimentary mistake with animation programs that try to be intuitive for beginners. Base Procreate's animation tool drives me insane for the same reason
>>8052291I'm not trying to advertise AI, I don't even particularly like using AI in its current state because I think it's too limited (and quite frankly I don't think it's as fun to write prompts as it is to draw shit).I just wanted to discuss the potential of AI in a near future being used to solve a longstanding problem in the 2d animation industry, which is the fact that shading/coloring/cleanup/inbetweens is extremely time consuming low-skill work. It's why Disney and Dreamworks abandoned 2d animation in favor of 3d, and outsourcing this kind of work is why indie animators can't make larger projects by themselves without needing an investor which comes with strings attached. I also fear that if western companies don't set the standard for efficient use of AI to make 2d animation cheaper while still maintaining the human element of keyframing and storyboarding etc... then the standard for AI usage for animation might instead be set by China/Korea/Japan which are much less concerned with ethics and much more focused on efficiency.>>8052306>>8052308I can't post my WIP because it's furry gay sex lol, here's a catbox though>https://files.catbox.moe/qkr7c3.gif>these niggers are insecure about the ai bubble poppingQuite the contrary, I think it will be great when the AI bubble pops because then companies will stop trying to force AI where it makes no fucking sense and making AI look retarded because it's not a magical fix all. It will then more appropriately be applied well in the areas it can actually be used efficiently and to help people achieve things that wasn't possible to do before. The Dot.Com bubble is a good example. Not every single website ever created is profitable and worth investing in or even has any good reason to exist, but that doesn't mean ALL websites are worthless.
>>8052338its not even an animation softwareits call storyboard pro cuz its for storyboards n most of my collegues are trained in thatthe issue is these nigga grew too complacent with making board n never bothered doing the timing n camera work in their storyboard itself aka they've never done animatics beforeso they keep insisting on using a software that was principally designed for storyboard not animaticsshit is super frustrating to get done right in that softareas much as i hate adobe animate its king when it comes to quick n easy animatics

CSP or Krita? You know... besides one being free and not the other
>>8052718Well I switched from Krita to CSP so you know...I do think Krita is more intuitive at first so it's easier to jump in and make animations right away while CSP has a bit of a learning curve even though I think at this point I'd find CSP easier.
>>8052718making any animation longer than 24 frames requires the 300 dollar version of cspfor that reason alone krita mogsunless you wanna pirate csp in which case idk its just a matter of personal preferencetheyre both pretty basic art software, if you can make good stuff in one you can make good stuff in all of them
>>8052790>making any animation longer than 24 frames requires the 300 dollar version of cspjesus, I get locking some features behind premium but basic fucking functionality is absurd
>>8053016yeah its pretty fuckin stupidcome to think of it animation is very often gatekept behind paid programs. photoshop, flash, toonboom, csp. theyre all after your fucking cash and they all do the same shit more or less. thank fuck for krita and other free programs that give you the means to animate digitally free of charge. krita isnt perfect by any means but it werks just fine for my needs
>>8053169I'm not completely against animation programs being paid, developers have to eat too after all. I just don't like when they're really fucking expensive, or on a subscription model. I also can't even comprehend the idea of selling a program that locks basic functionality behind an additional payment barrier. I'm fine with there being a free version and a paid version (functional), I think it's disgusting when there's a paid version and a paid version (functional).

>>8053718I never tried anything but CSP but I can confirm the weird playback bug there. I got a pirated premium one and it works perfectly when drawing, no frames restrictions either, but when I do playbacks to check how the animation is flowing that shit slows down and skips frames, so I have to actually save it as a gif just to see what the actual end result looks like. Other than this I personally don't have any complaints
Guys, i draw comics, i'm not interested in animation. Would be nightmare for my ego. I often see animation frames and they are such great illustration, such a shame they only seen for a split second.I love the clean style, little line variation, little hatching, eyes and hair is drawn differently compared to manga. Has anyone here been using Umoupen? I'm having a very hard time finding experiences of people who've used it online - I suppose partially so because it came out quite recently, but still 3 months should be enough for at least a little bit of organic internet traffic on the topic for a software of this kind, right?
>>8058052Ok my bad I see these posts here>>8044833>>8053395>>8045049but that's still quite sparse. Would you guys recommend the software over Tahoma2D for example? Why's Tahoma not linked in the OP anyway?
How often will you guys catch an error on a single frame and say "fuck it" and not bother to fix it? I'm well past my perfectionist phase at this point to the point where if I notice a minor error only after scrubbing through the same frames a million times I won't bother addressing it since theres a 99.9% chance no one will catch it regardless. I can't be bothered anymore, this hobby already asks so much patience of a man.
>>8058274I tend to skip any errors when the final product is basically finished, and those usually tend to be minor hiccups rather than gaping blemishes
>>8058274depends what kind of error,if it's a scraggly line i don't bother but if it's egregious like a leg disappearing for a frame or a weird movement i'll always fix

>>8058274If its small like a speck or line I'll leave it but even sometimes when its a big error (I forgot to draw the whole character except the mouth for one frame one time) I'll still leave it out of laziness lmao.
1/2Working on a project for a forum I'm on. It requires two 3-6 second animations, one that acts as an intro and plays once, and another that loops. Here's my sketches for the opening animation. Please ignore jankiness with the water line on top. The straight lines are really just for blocking. I have 10 frames to spare on this one, what do you guys think would be the best use for them here?
