I draw incredibly slow and I HATE it; This drawing took me the better part of a month to make and it's still not even finished yet (Still needs reworking and shading in some areas like the Legs and Hair). What could I do in order to improve my drawing speed?also please critique my artwork
Learn patience. Nothing in life worth having comes quick.Unfortunately, fried chicken doesn't count
>>8041006Art is just not something you can do it fastYou can practice and learn some art shortcuts to make the process quicker but the process will still take time
>>8041006When you say it took you the better part of a month, what do you mean? How many hours a day did you spend on it?
-Do life drawing sessions, as they start with 30 sec drawings before eventually ramping up to a full 10 minutes to draw. You can do these with sites like line-of-action or quickposes, and I'm sure youtube has some life session videos too.-Use a timer and force yourself to work within certain limits (eg, 30 minutes for rough sketch, 1 hr for refined drawing, 1 hour for inked lines, etc). No cheating. You ONLY work within the limits you set.-Work out what's slowing you down (eg, anatomy) and target those particular areas with targeted practice sessions.-Make sure your drawing sessions are uninterrupted, and not you mostly just playing around on the internet while occasionally glancing at your drawing.-Stop being a perfectionist.
>>8041013I like me some fried chicken and chips with cranberry juice or elderflower.>>8041036I understand that "Rome wasn't built in a day", but i want to go into animation/game dev so what happens if my employer requires me to essentially "build Rome" within a time frame i cannot handle? Or i start a bunch of projects and cant handle the backlog because of how slow i am.Obviously this is just hypothetical but i want to be able to improve so that in the (near) future i can pump out projects or maybe even commisions at a reasonable frequency
>>8041038up to 5/6 hours a day just sitting at my desk like a couch potato.with short 15-30 minute breaks in-between consisting of eating Sensations while watching YouTube anime commentary videos and the like..
>>8041049could've made this in 20 seconds using gen ai. the future is now retard
>>8041049If this is what 5-6 hours per day gets you after several weeks, you're definitely doing something wrong, because what you've posted is a 5-6 hour work.I knew someone else who worked like this, and I wager it's the same here; yiu're just agonizing over your work and taking it very slow out of fear of mistakes, or just needless perfection. The only point during a project that your art needs to look good is at the end; it can be ugly up to that point. Even making and correcting a bunch of mistakes and cleaning up messiness probably would have taken you farther.
>>8041006You've been conditioned by social media and art youtubers to believe that artworks are created in a matter of minutes rather than days. Time to stop following and start putting in the work.
>>8041042>Stop being a perfectionist>Work out what's slowing you downActually i think this might be it; I remember vividly, always meticulously correcting sections i didn't like or didn't fit my visioneven after already colouring and shading it.The two characters featured in the OG post are relatively new OCs that i don't have definitive model sheets/designs for yetI now realise i may have went in kind of blind and ended up changing too many things midway through (like the height of the one in the Onesie (i attached one of the original)).I realise this now. Thank you
>>8041006>>8041061Disable the undo button. If you undo each line 2-3 times you will extend the time it takes to make a piece by at least 2-3 times. Also use an actual timer. "Took me a month" is not "active working time". Consider an extreme: If you only work on a thing for 5 min each day, and it takes you a month, you really only spent 2.5hrs. It's just spread out.
>>8041050Worthless AI-suckling scum. Gen ai is useless; it only steals from other already existing artworks online to make shoddy amalgamations which can only be compared to that of a doppelganger. nothing made with it can really be called "your own".
>>8041071Don't let the people seething over AI trick you into the false dichotomy of "AI = uncontrolled, non-AI = controlled". That view will make your art into a sterile, stiff steaming pile of boring neurosis that projects every single anxiety you had into the viewer's eyeballs. They will know, they will see it. There is a reason a common desire among artists is for techniques that allow us to "loosen up" - most people are tense, rigid, strapped in due to work, social pressure, etc. and it shows in their art. This is very different from someone who is working to precision because of the joy they find in clean lines, geometry and such. But despite the historical precedent of being "too tight", nothing is as bad as someone who gets mindbroken into being overly self-conscious.
>>8041006>>8041049What were you doing for all those hours? Did you draw this from imagination, or were you looking at references and trying to recreate aspects of them? We can only guess, but you can tell us what was eating up most of your time. Then, perhaps, we can offer some useful advice.
>>8041071Thank you!!!!!!1!It's the same garbage again and again— just as those hideous hyperrealism monkeys that can only copy photographs.
>>8041065I like to believe i have very good line confidence; The first finished draft (coloured and rendered) took about 4 hours within the first dayBUT I didn't like how it turned out since it didnt fit my vision and reworked it, then I ended up not liking the rework and reworked that. Repeat for a literal month. So i think the perfectionism thing is essentially my "Hamartia"/fatal flaw. I will look into removing the undo button from my drawing pad and getting some kind of clock or timer.Thank you.
>>8041082Silence, meat proxy.
>>8041085Mostly all drawn from imagination, trying to replicate the characters that appear in/invade my dreams as closely as possible (which I now realise may be a problem). For certain areas requiring more precision or that i don't know/understand how to create i will look up references on Pinterest, or wherever else, and adapt it into my work.
>>8041085>What were you doing for all those hours?I would finish a large area, then realise an hour later, after a break when my eyes readjusted to it, that i didn't like it because it didn't match the version from my dream of them and would then stop everything to rework that area again.Rinse and repeat
>>8041103Real. Its become way too mainstream and i want to disintegrate them all into ash and then evaporate said ash into a fume
>>8041071homo
>>8041050This is a step below telling an aspiring cook to just microwave a Hot Pocket or buy take-out, or an aspiring track-runner to just buy the latest model of luxury car. Why tell people looking for genuine advice to desecrate their need to self-express and develop themselves? People come here because they want to engage in the process of making a thing, not receive a product that serves no greater purpose than to be purchased.
>>8041013>Unfortunately, fried chicken doesn't countit took a long time to invent fried chicken!
>>8041006Read Animeta unironically. Do all the exercises.
>>8041006veering off-topic, but I like your two ocs, very interesting designs

>>8044803One guy would buy a fifty pound bag of clay and write "my vase" on it passing with A for quantity but learning nothing from either lesson
>>8041104Not entirely related but, Who are you? Why it say "MT_OD" and not "Anonymous" I've lurked on this board for almost 7 years now but I never really bothered to understand much of how this website works. Btw truth nuke, glad to see being anti-ai is still strong on here, You said you think your lines are confident, I kind of want to see your art now.
>>8045890There is a name field You can fill it with whatever People dont because using names on an anonymous message board defeats the purpose of an anonymous message boardBut sometimes theres a reason to keep OP standing out
>>8045940Personally I think that everyone should wish to defeat the purpose of anonymous message boards
>>8044803That's a fictional anecdote. Real life anecdote says we should do it slowly, deliberately, then later increase the speed. In sports, in music.
>>8045940Oh! I see now! thank you!
