wǒ zài /ic/.How good of a computer is actually required for digital art? Is a desktop computer actually necessary or can I get away with a laptop? Any recommendations? Also, I'm thinking of getting a drawing tablet with a screen, don't know how fragile they are but I'd like to be able to have a portable little art machine.>get a tabletI would but I do actually need to buy a PC I don't want to go spend a few hundred dollars on something I don't need so I don't need something that can run a videogame. Might want to fuck around with blender though
People can make digital art on their mobile phones these days, so I really wouldn't be too concerned with the spec of your computer.Unless you work really inefficiently and make thousands of layers just for your sketches, it'll be fine.
>>8041825I mean I do my art on my phone It just gets kinda slow if you make something that's high resplus it's a pain in the assDo you think like a old thinkpad laptop would be fine?
>>8041817Notebooks are nice and reliable but scary. You can't fix shit on them by yourself, you have to take them to a place to do any repair or whatever.Desktop pcs are a better option if you don't want to rely on other people to fix problems who will go through your personal shit.An i5 and 16GB of RAM -no graphic card- (or its equal on AMD) is the most basic specs for a rig nowadays. That setup alone (no dedicated graphic card) can cost less than 300 dollars. What really matters are the hard drives. Get good reliable hard drives, no stupid SSDs or budget mid-tiers hard drives. Don't get stingy on that, get the best Hard drives you can, to guarantee at least ten years of useful life.
>>8041817hard drives are good for storage but you need a pc with an ssd, running art programs on a hard drive is slow as fuck, and frequent saving can take forever.depending on the art program, you might just need a cpu with integrated graphics and no gpu, lots of art programs are almost entirely bound to the cpu, but 3d art programs are much more gpu bound and will perform better with a dedicated card.if you cant get a decent laptop and a screenless, id go for something like the xppen tablet or the wacom tablet standalones instead of the waking nightmare of drawing on a thinkpad
>>8041832Ok so what if hypothetically i bought a thinkpad x1 yoga Is it bad
>>8041864which generation?
>>80418701st genshit was cheap as dirt
>computerGet some refurbished office machine from eBay for $60. 8 GB of garbage RAM or 32 if you’re feeling fancy. Everything else literally doesn’t matter.>tabletGet a used Wacom Intuos. A4 size (medium). They are indestructible and immune to the passage of time. Don't pay more than $40.
>>8041817buying a computer right now will cost you since there is a ram crysis thanks to A.I servers. Then again, people were making good art on computers since 2005.your best bang for the buck is something like an apple mac mini, m1/m2/m3, apple notebook, or a mini pc with windows (they suck at games but have good cpus) + a pen tablet.or if you can find a cheap samsung tablet, s7+ or newer, that's your portable art machine.
>>8041817get at least 32 GB if you want to draw on krita. it's barely enough for an 8K canvas. i make scaled schematics, so a larger resolution means a bigger ship. krita used to crash a ton until i got the snapstore version for some reason (i suspect memory leak with the official .deb file off the website).32 GB is also enough for me to play around with reasonably large (625K polygon) models in blender, but for actual scenes with backgrounds and multiple characters, i would recommend more than that, around 64 GB at least.
>>8041885Dont forget about display, you need a puter/top with a good display with atleast 90-100% srgb otherwise your color is going to look muted or muddy in there and you cant do anything about it unless to get yourself a higher and better display. Its either you get a laptop with good display and drawing tablet or you get a laptop with normal/shitty display and display tablet (the latter tend to have around 100% srgb as their standard). This is why those phone-finger artists tend to have a good looking art (aside from having the skillset to do so ofc) because modern phones tend to have better display than your average laptop with cheaper and lower amount of price at the same time
>>8043083>32 gb>8kLord have mercycan you post something you've made?
>>8042702>apple macCan you set resolution dot by dot with black borders on mac?
>>8041817nigga i draw on a tablet from 2016hate people always asking for specs and brushes and programs like holy shit use paint it doesn't matter
>>8045468post your work king
>>8045474You need at least 128 KB of RAM.
>>8045500aryan as fuckthe thinkpad I bought will be more than enough(Im op)
