Why are internet art communities so slow? All the art discords I’ve been invited to have been practically dead. Even the #general channels only get a few messages a day. It doesn’t take any time or effort to shitpost about random shit in the general chat.I know drawing is a more popular hobby than this so where is everyone?
>>8042187they all moved to a new discord server it will be alive a few days until people moves to yet another new server
>>8042187artists are narcissists in general, especially the ones who are "good" but not hardworking, talented, etc to be famous. narcissists cannibalize their own "communities" and social lives all the time.
>>8042187Clearly you haven't been to Quit3 nor Anime Study General. And anyway what's the problem? If you want to talk random shit you can go to just about any discord, why'd you want an art discord for that specifically?Don't wait to be invited, though. If you really want art discords, go to youtube, find youtubers who purport to "teach art" or "give art tips", go into their discords, and in those discords look for invites to other discords (it's like surfing the web without a search engine). Eventually you'll find a discord that's sufficiently active for your taste.
>>8042187I've been in active discords but they are full of zoomers
zoomers brains are fried by the scroll
>>8042403>Quit3Not an Art community.
R3NtN4Sbch active community
>>8042409I’m in my mid 30s
>>8042187>prosUsually too much busy with their communities and commissions, than having to help begs for free>begsUsually shy and isecure for not being good at drawing, which makes them feel at fault even for making a normal message
>>8042187feels like things are kind of dead everywhere sadly
>>8042482Nah. I’m in discords for non-art topics that are very fast and you can basically livechat with people 24/7.Even just on 4chan alone, /vg/ gets over one post per second. There are many individual generals on /vg/ that are faster than all of /ic/ put together. It’s just artists that don’t like to socialize for some reason
>>8042483good to know. i guess its just art thats dead everywhere now. its ai joever
>>8042187They're actually drawing anon.
>>8042187BroJust be your own critic. You don't need help from other people. Just think and use what you've learned. You have to pull yourself by the bootstraps.
>>8042187I actually don't know how people spend so much time just chatting away in art communities. Seems like a waste of time when they aren't exchanging tips or resources. I know people that stay all day online just yapping. And their work fucking suck most of the time, pardon my French.
>>8042499Just crit your drawing the next day, you'll hate it anyways and find flaws after you sleep once.
u wanna fight?
>>8042187I've asked this question in a server before. Apparently a lot of artists just have a preference to use art server for advertising their art (i.e. twitter link posters) or only for art improvement and critique so ergo are not there to just socialize and make friends. Which sucks. But it is what it is.
>>8042485AI has probably hurt the hobby somewhat, but I’d hate to think that it’s having THAT big of an effect. I don’t want to give the aibros that satisfaction./ic/ was actually pretty fast (by its own standards) right up until the start of 2026, which was already multiple years into AI. Then it slowed down a ton for some reason
>>8042499It’s not always about critique of specific drawings. Sometimes you just want to have fun and socialize with people who are into the same things as you.The fact that you’re posting on this board at all means you see some sort of value in it
>>8042744i mean it happened after ai, and artists tend to be a sensitive bunch. considering most of you dont even like drawing, is it really that surprising?although i think theres a bit of everything fatigue rn too
>>8042744
>aislopdidn’t read
>>8042744/ic/ was at its best between 2013 and 2021. AI was super fucking cancerous on this board a few years back. People who were posting long before the AI craze were getting accused of generating and tracing images, some genuinely were. If you're actually good at art it's literally not worth posting here anymore. It's all risk and no reward.
>>8042187I think it is because most people fall on and off art and also if you comment a lot or post too much of your own art people think you are either desperate or conceitedBasically ego problems end up making these groups slower
>>8042744a lot of boards got slower directly after the hack that happened
>>8042900>If you're actually good at art it's literally not worth posting here anymore. It's all risk and no reward.Yeah honestly why even post. Crabs are way worse than they've ever been (I've been here since 2018), theres barely any high quality posters here anymore too.The general art quality of the board is down so much it's crazy. And I see posters who've been here for years chase off new people. For example: A while back I saw someone post a really good character walk cycle in the animation thread, and people who have been posting in there for a long time chased him off and told him it was shit when it was one of the best pieces of animation I've seen posted there! Theres an issue with people with genuine skill being degraded and chased out of /ic/. But honestly I think it's a good thing, it'll keep people away from this cesspit. All the crabs can die in their bucket.
>>8042187Not many people make art servers there many place to socialize, and most of us just shitpost with the cool people in private chat when we do.
>>8042920I’ve also been here since 2018 and I think the average skill level has actually gone up over time. The floor has gotten higher in /beg/ at least
>>8043046ya i look at the archive and uncs sucked ass. same with art history, quality falls off a cliff in the 70s. lead poisoned boomers cashed in and then priced us out with ai
>>8042900I do it anyway
>>8042920Schizo did all that bullshit to push people out just for 95% of them to no longer draw here themselves is the most insulting part about all it. What a bunch of faggot losers.
>>8042187Real pros learned a long time ago all that time and energy can be used to run a business an ergo their own community.Case and point: look at someone like Smurf who use to hang around Deviantart and 4chan all day. But now he's popular enough he can do well for himself and is busy for it.
>>8045415His story writing is awful, but his art is genuinely goon worthy.
>>8042744the ai thing just gave retards one more excuse to spam and who do you think they would target with their trolling? obviously the artswhich attracted more and more trolls to fuck shit upthe rest is just your usual discord quacks trying to funnel everyone into their honeypot servers to farm for content, bully and harass because that's how discord is used now and that is how miserable and mentally ill the average normie is nowThat is why no one talks in those type of servers or the internet communities in general, it's all risk because you genuinely have no-lifers with legit mental illnesses that constantly seek drama stalking communities all day.Even if someone does nothing, they will twist and misunderstand things on purpose to justify going after someone. Those type of individuals that do that shit are usually the most active or only come out when they can insult people. It is no surprise that recently with the discord shitstorm thread, yet another /ic/ server deleted itself, another has bled lots of its users and another is completely dead because they all know they cannot trust each otherCombine all this cancer together; people just leave or do not risk becoming food for the mentally ill, because no matter how much these discord admins try, people just know what they are.
>>8045415He's a faggot who traces
>>8045502Proof? I didn't know this
>>8042187The better is the artist, the less sense for him to chat with randoms. The famous ones already got their fan-clubs, while the good ones are grinding. I have been on a 20 Discord art servers in total and noticed that the most active shit-posters are also the people that barely draw. The best artists on servers usually just drop their works and that's it. I am not famous but I noticed with myself as well that the more I progressed skill-wise, the more willing beginner guys were willing to chat or befriend me, but once I became better their advice became useless to me. For every 10 beginners only 2 or 3 actually reach mid level instead of dropping out or stagnating and refusing to learn. Befriending beginners is kind of pointless, I think>>8042403Here's an example of what I am talking about, the average level on Quit3 was pretty level but there were moments when general could get 1000+ messages within 24 hours
>>8045519was pretty low*
>>8042187I stopped joining art discords after I tried joining a couple of the big ones and realizing most people there are trying to shill comms and then the not-artist scammers are also there bombarding people with dms about fake comms
>>8045508It's cope. Smurf has gotten commissions from Konami. He clearly has skill.
>>8042187my experience music, design, kino discords is first: too many tourists and lurkers, always. which can be fine.second owners are fragile bullies, cant handle any discussion, take themselves and their role too seriously, and ban anyone who likes to talk and hang who isnt acting like a hurt dog begging for help.third: zoomer herd mindset. everyone is a lurker til they smell blood. people you got along with yesterday will call for your hide. utterly irrational, but onwer mods appease to maintain the herd.FOUR: theres a core of people that like to work post chat make art. but why should they bear the burden of making a channel work? my server devolved into 10 lurkers and two private channels which are very productive and active, and a moderately active 'shop'.been banned from more channels than i can count
