Watched it. I think he wants you to balance:
1. copying good artwork (exactly, no compromise in terms of composition and details)
2. drawing from life (he said from photos tho, not in the sense of still life or live figure drawing)
3. drawing from scratch (but not in the sense of drawing from imagination or memory, closer to sycra’s iterative drawing from what he’s describing)
