Personally, I think it looks best when graffiti artists use their skill to drawing interesting looking characters like these, I hate stuff like kitschy murals and names being tagged in uninteresting ways which seems to be a majority of graffiti these days.
niggraffiti
>>8045734It's an outlet for repressed rich kids.
I like it, but only when an actual attempt at art has been made. Tags suck, and just make the area look worse. Actual art adds colour to the grey street. That said, I'm only tolerant of it in so far as it's hasn't been done on someone's 'private' property. If someone puts graffiti on my car or house, even if the art is really nice, I'm fucking killing the dude if I get the chance.Keep that shit on 'public' spaces. And yes I know that private and public can be a little vague, but everyone know instinctively what those are, and what is and isn't a private or public space, so there's no excuses.
I remember one time years ago at a flea market I saw on a truck a hot gamer girl with tentacles reaching for her, I don’t know if the person who owned the truck had that painted on it or if it was just high effort graffiti (a lot of those trucks at the flea market have graffiti on them) but I thought that looked sick, definitely an example of good street artHere’s a small recreation from memory I drew of what I remember seeing.
>>8045775Truckers love have babes on their rigs, so I'd guess it was commissioned.Nice drawing btw.
>>8045734boring tags/phrases suck but if it's high effort and colorful they liven up public spaces so i'm all for them
>>8045745>>8045830There are very rare instances where I actually see cool looking tags.
>>8045734I like graff/tags. I did some back in the day. You cant "like" this form of art from the outside. Its not made for you. Its made for the artist first then for the other taggers. Then maybe, you can get a glimse, a character, a nice colored wild style on an abandonned factory. Tags are as important as the big pièces. The spot, the hight, how dangerous it is give a graff/tag its real qualities. Even the ugliest tag made by the newest toy on air force one would be the most talked about and the toy would get massive respect from the scene.
>>8045734>What’s your opinion on graffiti, /ic/?Just imagine the worst opinion. That's mine.
Secretly defecating on the floor in a mall
>>8045924Interesting perspective on tagging, I guess that explains why you see a lot of that stuff on trains and unused billboards. Though personally if I was spray painting something on a dangerous area I’d go all out with doing it for shits and giggles, like I’d spraypaint a Minion with an erection or something on a billboard.Onetime at Seaside Heights I saw a spraypainted doodle of Squidward saying "nig" by the boardwalk in the private property located between two buildings, that guy’s got the right idea.
Yeah I don't care about graffiti. Behead the noise terrorists though.
>>8045856I would like it a lot more if they didn’t tag over that cool car painting
>>8045943Graffiti is what you want it to be man. Want to put a lot of colors in the streets? Want to draw dicks on all the billboards in a 25km radius? Want to get famous in this secret club? Want action, covert opération and planning your next train? Or just walking around the city drunk af with a marker in the pocket. This is graffiti.
>>8045924>>8046058One time when I was 9 or 10 or something my mom took me and my siblings to her friends house and for some reason I felt the need to vandalize the place, I grabbed a green marker from a drawer and drew random combinations of letters (that’s what I thought tags were) on the sons bedroom wall when nobody was looking, dicks and more random combinations of letters in the bathroom cabinets, and troll faces with the text "you mad bro" (not even in an insulting way, I just thought that was text you’d see on graffiti) on the sisters bedroom wall, I also drew anarchy symbols and kilroy was here stuff in some places, I didn’t even know what those symbols meant, I just saw them often spray painted on places in media. I got grounded for a month because of that.Safe to say 9 year old me was a master at tagging.
Some photos from the foundations of long abandoned mansions along the Palisades of New Jersey, overlooking the Hudson River.
>>8045924I never got close enough to be "in" the circles seeing as I'm mostly a digital artist and an amateur watercolor painter, but the taggers I met were always very nice. One guy showed me his bic pen sketches that he would get commissioned to make or that he would use as inspiration himself. He saw me drawing and liked my linework because it reminded me of his and it was just a happy moment. He was kind of awkward and autismo for a biker but I can't deny those school notebook sketches were seriously impressive. That single experience made me appreciate graffiti artists ten times more and I hope I see him again.I know my experience isn't universal and it's going to vary from place to place but I feel happy there's a lot of cool dudes here. If there's even one more upside to drawing in public it's when random artists approach me and show me what they've made.
i suck at letters.shits fun tho.
>>8045734necessary for ugly box infrastructure but only if its art, text does not count no matter how sugar coated.
