>tfw yo art develops What causes this? Is this the result of those western YouTube art influencers and their terrible advice?
Hater thread. Shame on you
>>8047346No, i'm trying to find the cause of this phenomenon. I have no idea who that artist is, this I can't possibly hate them, only pity them and hope they got better later
Someone post that Oda's old and current one piece "art" comparison.
>>8047345Yeah. Western art education is a brainwashing program designed to stifle anyone with even a modicum of taste after all.
>>8047352
>>8047345
>>8047359>>8047352How does this happen? I can’t imagine this ever being me because I would find it physically revolting to purposefully strip my lineart and shapes of any complexity just to fit in with a social group. Is it just because females are more society-driven? It's a real shame because it seems like she had an inherent drive to follow the based JP way from the beginning.
Why does this thread need to be a general at all fucking times? Are you that scared to lose your soul? I promise it won't effect you, you don't draw anyway.
>>8047360its 63.000 dollars a year. talent doesnt matter i assume
>>8047345That is why you should aim to get an art "degree" on big sticky instead of art school, not even joking.
>>8047345The left one has so much soul, while the right one is scaring me.Probably it happened for chasing the dream of learning good realistic rendering.>>8047355I love this meme, but I can't understand how this is real.
>>8047359both look pretty beg to be q h
>>8047371first one at least has something going for it in terms of design and drawing ability. you can envision it becoming more and more based with time if all goes well.second is just faux anime devoid of any complexity in actual drawing execution (and thus of any complexity in characterization). there is no hope of improvement left.
>>8047371she made her own progress pic
>>8047381If she's only 20 she might still make it honestly. Maybe it's just me being too hopeful but it doesn't seem like she natively wants to draw in the calarts slop style and always wanted to do more anime stuff. Are there any known cases of people succesfully detransitioning from calarts?
>>8047359I'm a beg, could someone please explain what's wrong with the drawing on the right? It seems fine to me.
>>8047359The girl's nose extending all the way down and connecting to the jaw makes me feel a weird sickness/uneasiness in my stomach looking at it
>>8047405It's amateurish for someone who graduated from an art school. This is the type of thing I expect from a tween or a /beg/. I dunno.
>>8047405I'm honestly confused by the hand on the poleThe girl blushing implies they are overlapping handsBut her hand is actually higherbut if you look at the image here >>8047359They are overlappingalso the dudes arm on the left is fucking Loooong
>>8047345improvement (albeit kinda uglier than the old)>>8047352improvement>>8047355regression>>8047359cherry picked but improvementno wonder you guys are permabeg nodraws
>>8047345>>8047347>i'm trying to find the cause of this phenomenonIn this particular example it happens when you try to change art styles but all you have ever drawn is the same animeish girl. It's kinda like starting over instead of regression.
>>8047345>>8047347>>8047345Developing your drawing skills comes down to observing, copying, and then drawing from memory. You observe and copy in order to build and develop your visual library, then you actively pull from it in order for it to stick and become second nature.>If you don't draw from memory, you fail to keep more of what you learned. Your art progress is slow.>If you draw from memory but fail to observe/copy anything new, your art stagnates as your visual library is frozen.>If you overwhelmingly draw from memory and aren't consistent with drawing, your art starts to quickly regress.>>8047360It mostly comes down to bad habits. You need to constantly observe new references before copying them and then drawing them from memory before going back and doing it again. Draw often and always draw new things, especially if you're struggling with certain concepts.
>>8047370>>8047355A lot of people overexaggerate the Calarts-ification. The reason for Rory's style regressing has less to do with the kind of overt stylization she was attempting to do (geometric-ish) and more to do with how she not only wasn't really prepared for it, but that she wasn't really pulling from other new sources of art to copy. Most industry professionals will tell you that you should NOT aim for a geometric or beanmouth style if you're /int/ or even /beg/ because simpler designs require experienced artists who are very comfortable with 3D forms and basic shapes that they know what to boil character design down to and are comfortable with leaving details out. In all honesty, the beanmouth style and the geometric UPA revival-style should only be attempted by someone constantly drawing for more than six years and who has a firm grasp on caricature and life drawing.Regardless of age, most 90s/2000s cartoons were made by people who had years' worth of literal hours of drawing under their belt. Very deep visual libraries and lots of experience with life drawing, like in the case of Stephen Silver.Rory lacked enough life drawing experience and a deep enough visual library, hence why her art ended up looking awkward.
>>8047667This is also one of the reasons for Pan-Pizza's long period of stagnation followed by regression, as well as why Vivziepop gets so much criticism. Nothing wrong with trying to ape Vasquez or Tartakovsky or McCracken, but you need to constantly copy photographs and grind life drawing if that's what you're truly passionate about.
>>8047345I saw this one and it immediately lit a bulb
>>8047345>mommy i posted it again
>>8047352You don’t draw. How is a 10 minute sketch which includes three full figures a symbol of regressions and those three full figures demonstrate an incredible amount of growth in fluidity in anatomy compared to the original which looks like a Mexican eight year old copied an UTAU sing’s thumbnail using crayons. The oiriginal drawing from 2020 has no tilt in the legs, hotdog feet, and her right hand connected to long ass the rake arms is literally backwards. If she put like twenty minutes more into drawing her face and hair in the gesture drawings and gave her the same outfit you nodraws would be cooming all over the new art.>>8047360I hate you. There’s literally zero western cal arts influence to be seen in either drawing, these girls most likely aren’t even getting educated in the west and are certainly SEAsian/Latam, and yet you have to defend the grorious moon against western influences you literally made up out of thin air. You aren’t Japanese, btw.
>>8048350>these girls most likely aren’t even getting educated in the westthey're both CalArts alumni ...
/asg/ pls go
>>8047345He added too much detailsTechnically he improved but aesthetically he regresses
>>8047359The right is better.>>8047376schizo
>>8048355>CalArtsThat explains it
>>8047345For this in particular, I think the artist was just in an awkward stage of transitioning into a different style that they don't have completely figured out yet. How to best apply the new knowledge gained, what details to leave out, what details to leave in. I also had an ugly uncanny phase when I first tried doing more complex rendering. They probably got their shit figured out eventually
>>8047345>>8047352It's kind of interesting how you can see the ways in which the artist got better, and also see what they lost over time.
>>8047376>>8047359>>8047360>>8047371right is from animated short she made. bodies are simplified to make animating them easier. you are so beg, it's cringethis is her channel, btw https://www.youtube.com/@SakuraOpalArt/videos
>>8048802>bodies are simplified to make animating them easier.>simplifiedso it's indeed more like 'toons instead of anime, that was the point.
>>8047352It doesn't work because once you grind up your skills your forget your soul... and that's why most western art look like this.
>>8048846> grind up your skillsbut it's a visible degradation in drawing skill excused by le cartoon simplification. other aspects like gesture are naturally (slightly) better but you would expect that with more experience.
>>8048856I mean it's not futaba autist level but it's better..
>>8048802>bodies are simplified to make animating them easierThat could be an excuse if anime wasn't invented yet. Now we know it's just a CalArts cope because they cannot draw.
>>8048477>The right is better.not as a drawing. it's simplified slop lines.some skills do get better with experience like composition but drawing is purposefully subverted by calarts.
>>8048881>simplifiedIt's refined. Produced. Finished. The other drawing of the cat looks like some shit my brother would've drawn on paper and showed me saying "I'm gonna be a tattoo artist some day" meanwhile the anime style train drawing looks like it would've been used for one of those Japanese mcdonalds commercials. It looks professional even if the technical elements aren't amazing
>>8049214there is no refinement in the drawing (lineart and shape system) itself. it's simplified slop.>anime style that is not an anime style, it's americanime.
>>8049214>looks like it would've been used for one of those Japanese mcdonalds commercials
>>8049222Simplification is the ultimate improvement, less is more. If i had more time i would write a shorter post
>>8049233removing all refinement and complexity from your drawing isn't actually a good thing. there is a reason anime does all the things it does and there is a reason faux anime looks like trash.
>>8049225I'm literally right though. Stop trying to hide anime derangement syndrome behind whatever psuedo intellectual stuff you just posted.
>>8049476Can't tell if you're trolling but if you seriously think these are even remotely similar in terms of drawing quality then you have a severe case of low cognitive resolution.
>>8049491>b-but le perspective and le epic theory of le shadowing and light and le color theo-you're missing the point. one looks like a product, the other doesn't. you're ngmi if you can't see this.
This is really just another thinly vieled "I hate female artists" thread, huh?sage.
>>8049740Females shouldn't be drawing
>>8051981some ofyour favorite media was almost definitely made by a woman and you don't even know it. I hope this causes existential dread in your feeble mind.
>>8047355both are shit
>>8047345OP's image fucking hurts to see so much because this is literally how it looks everytime I try to draw something that's isn't on my usual shitty cartoony/anime art style.
