there is an artistic area where you are too skilled to be charmingly bad but not skilled enough to be unironically good. this is what I call the untalented valley
>>8054999That's because you got "good" doing retarded shit like grinding boxes and you never learned how to express yourself in an interesting way.
>>8055001What if I grinded anatomy like hands and feet?
>>8055005If you intend to be a hand and foot artist you're doing a good job
>>8055008Not really... But hands and feet belong to characters too
>>8055005You can make a beautiful illustration with little to no anatomy skills, but you cant make a beautiful illustration with just anatomy by itself, otherwise doctors would be the greatest artists in the world.
>>8055013Makes sense.I'll just ignore that offputting imageThanks!
>>8055014>offputting image Dogisaga is the Van Gogh of our generation
>>8055017I'm not terminally online enough to know that
>>8054999finally some new information on this dead board
>>8054999how do I go back to the left peak?
>>8055023You unironically go full right peak and then learn to emulate left peak
>>8054999I think this is true for a lot of artists, but if you know how to be self critical and know what looks 'appealing' and what doesn't, I think you can sort of skip over that gap, while still being at that level skill-wise.Though this is mostly only true for more stylised art -- if you draw in a purely realistic way, I think everyone will fall into that skill-pit for a while.
>>8055018lurk moar then
>>8054999If you're going to copy memes from twitter you should at least change "untalented" to"unskilled" so you don't come across as retarded as they are.
>>8054999I don't think your graphic is accurate, here let me show a better one.
>>8055416
>>8055018Van Gogh is a pretty famous artist though
>>8054999this is a good thread for me right now. i have ended up after years of drawing in some sort of zone where my pieces are technical disasters but enjoyed by a small group of people who insist there is appeal. it's good that i've not lost my appeal, then, after all this time, but i fear if i attempt to actually "get better" then i will smother my appeal in the process and be left with nothing...
>>8054999Not sure if i regressed to the very beginning of "toddler scribbles" or am actually at the very bottom of "untalented valley", a very deep valley :(
>>8055439This thread actually makes me a bit more optimistic. This is where I estimate I'm at right now. I hope things just get better and better!
>>8055854pyw lol
>>8055854I am glad anon, I am here
>>8054999Could someone post an example of this?
>>80558544 years to get to the level of his first drawing!
>>8055859>>8055959Am I missing something why are people being a dick to the optimistic anon?
>>8055959nta but I wouldnt be able to replicate my first portrait / second serious drawing if I tried, for 40 minutes I was possessed by something greater than myself, it fooled me into pursuing art. lol, I really thought I was talented, wasted my time.
>stop being a dick in my lgbtq+ safe space dickcock server
Okay so it was for no reason
his graph's y dimension was unrealistic
>>8054999.
>>8055958something like this I would assumegood or skilled are arbitrary quantifiers
why did this thread die?
>>8055824I worry about this too. Like I definitely think my more recent pieces are more interesting, show more technical skill, and have more interesting/dynamic compositions and the like, but my most popular pieces are definitely things I drew years ago, with my most popular being over a decade old at this point. My newer art generates fewer responses, some people who used to regularly commission me have stopped, and I don't gain new followers like I used to when I post new art. It's really frustrating, and I'm not sure how to recapture whatever it was that people saw in my art from 7+ years ago (or hell, even just 2-3 years ago).
