why does this keep happening? my replication always comes out slightly wider and shorter than the original?
>>
WHAT IS THIS SCHIZOPHRENIC HIEROGLYPHIC? I need an explanation, OP.

me on the left holding up my pen to measure. the what i see box shows what i think i see. the reality box shows the real life happening

Well, considering you are aware of your drawing being inaccurate, we can write off your eyes and observational skills. Seems to me that it's just poor motor muscle coordination. Just keep attempting to refine and you'll get it eventually.

However, that is pretty funny that it's always slightly shorter and wider. If you ever give up on observational drawing, consider a career in caricatures. Lol.

but i cant give up my dream of drawing qt dolls... i need to work on my observation for her

I guess it's just a mental hangup. I almost always seem to draw chins too long, even though I know I tend to do it, and consciously think "draw it shorter," I still wind up drawing it too long. Some hangups you can probably train yourself out of, but I unironically think that some are so deeply rooted that trying to fix them is like trying to logic your way out of schizophrenia.

i get what you mean, for example. Ive noticed i sometimes draw heads too long but thats only when im not relying on ref. do you draw with a screen tablet or a screenless?because although i've noticed my tendencies and have been doing my best to remedy them,
i have achieved rather accurate measurements when im working with traditional stuff such as pen and paper where i usually hold up my sketch book to have it straight on so theres no distortion but whenever im doing digital either because my tablet is at an angle and im measuring with distortion or im leaning too much and thats causing problems?
one thing i have noticed which i dont think is normal is my drawing being slightly rotated compared to my reference this happens often in many instances where itll be rather accurate but rotated by a few degrees and i think applying vertical plumb lines might make me measure wrong for instance

tldr; does anyone actually use their pen for measuring if their screen is at an angle? I think it's messing me up. I hope im not THAT schizophrenic since i can come up with potential pain points, i just dont know the solution here

nice, blog?

>>8058900
thanks, and i don't have one
>>
>>8058930
you should make one. it's a waste to keep such nice drawings to yourself

thanks for the kind words but gotta get my skills up more first

It feels natural to make solely vertical comparisons: x is one third of the distance between y and z. And natural to make solely horizontal estimations, too: x is half as wide as y. It's harder to compare elements in both directions. A square may be easy enough, but beyond that it can be tricky. This leads to faces or other drawings that are stretched in one direction or another but otherwise seem carefully done.

Get in the habit of visualizing slopes and diagonals, and use them to keep your horizontal elements proportional to the vertical-- this line passes through the right shoulder and the left elbow. Somehow, judging the tilt of a diagonal is easier (for me) than seeing that a rectangle is two and a half times as high as wide. Trickier still when the proportions are unusual.

Here endeth my bullshit for today.

warosu is going crazy over this drawing
>>
>>8058988
wut? why??
>>8058950
oo i've actually have been tryin to visualize diagonals but also stuff like visualizing extending a line and seeing what it aligns with with some success. actually i had a couple fairly decent attempts today but more complex poses are pretty tough puzzles im still trying to figure out.

im starting to think you need a high iq for being able to measure efficiently desu im so slow and i didnt realize i totally messed up a shape until i came back to it.

Is every dad full of ghostposting or just this one?

You’re moving your arm between the horizontal and the vertical, you dumb nigger, that’s not a digital technique, you need to stay at a fixed distance with your arm fully extended to avoid distorting the measurement
>>
>>8059091
i know, thats what makes it so hard when the screen is at an angle.
>>
>>8058729
This is why I bit the bullet and got used to a drawing tablet without a screen
>>
>>8059227
perhaps its time to pick up a screenless... i have a mini one already but its pretty cramped...
>>
>>8059225
You’re not supposed to do it at a screen, you dumb nigger
>>
>>8059232
Its been awhile since I had a screen tablet but I am 99% sure you can use your screen tablet like one without a screen by just connecting it to a PC unless your screen tablet is to big/awkward for that

This scratchy, nude and crude and bald doodle is the peak of this anon's imagination. Truly I say, a beautiful use of ROI.
