whats the best way to try to make a living off art these days? seems like AI has made things really hard.

Is the dream dead?
>>

>is the dream dead?
dead as it ever was, it's always been bullshit
>best way to make a living
depends on what you are capable of. i assume you mean "easiest" or "most realistic," therefore hustling impressionist/abstract landscape paintings to boomers

Why should I help an internet stranger lol?

..art was never for living off since it existed

sakimi chan and many others still make bank.
>>
Well a little birdy told me that it's legal to do commissions, so..
>>
>>8060216
No one here is going to be the next sakimichan. She pretty much captured lightning in a bottle, was in the right place at the right time with the right skills. Meanwhile the standard for internet artists has skyrocketed since then.
>Grind a decade to get decent enough to maybe compete with AI to take some commissions
>Earn less than minimum wage
It is too late especially as a newcomer in the year of 2026 to try to make it in art.
>>
>>8060226
Why is it too late? Why can't people just replicate what the successful people are doing
>>
If we're talking non-corporate work, then it's the same as it ever was, it's just there's more noise and distractions than ever, but I believe the cream still rises to the top.
If we're talking corporate jobs, that's a bit more difficult to say, because yeah there's been mass lay-offs and all that jazz, but while that's been attributed to AI, it's a lot more complicated than just that (stagnating economy, those industries just floundering, foreign competition, fear of AI effecting them as well). That said, those art jobs DO still exist, and they're still hiring despite all the bitching and moaning, and the means of attaining them is likely unchanged as well.

Christ, I swear this board has just filled with nothing but whiny petulant faggots.
I can't tell if it's an attempt at a psy-op from the indians, or just jealousy for those who still have ambition, but in either case, it's really just annoying faggotry.

We're all gonna make it, even the hobbyists... except you losers.

>too late to make it in art
with that mindset, sure. diversify your skills. sure you cant make it as a one trick pony digital illustrator anymore, but thats how it was for a long long time. the recent gold rush is dead and honestly good riddance. that shit was aids, and i hope it will be remembered as some form of mass psychosis of guessing where boxes go in perspective, constructing mannequins out of boxes and triangles, and of course, drawing straight lines in a void over and over.

Wait for the universal basic income and draw whatever you want

>implying billionaires will share
We're going to get the second great depression while the 1% build more epstein islands with our tax dollars. Better stock up on canned foods
>>
>>8060234
not gonna happen barring some agricultural disease that kills all the crops like in interstellar. food has been solved a long time ago. the issue is undoing artificial scarcity and mental illness caused by boomers and cluster b personalities

I half suspect that us plebs (the greater part of society) will end up forming another part of society that's somewhat like the Amish people, except we just don't have AI.
So the wealthy will cut themselves off from everyone, living in the mansion with AI servants and sexbots, and the rest of us will carry on as is.
>>
>>8060234
Allieds are still busy genociding white people and replacing them with shitskins. They have no time for another depression.

>A friend of mine, a highly successful and very well known painter, calls to say hello and to invite me to an opening.

>I get a great kick out of this guy because, unlike some artists I’ve met, he’s totally unpretentious.

>A few months back he invited me to come to his studio. We were standing around talking, when all of a sudden he said to me, “Do you want to see me earn twenty-five thousand dollars before lunch?” “Sure,” I said, having no idea what he meant. He picked up a large open bucket of paint and splashed some on a piece of canvas stretched on the floor.

>Then he picked up another bucket, containing a different color, and splashed some of that on the canvas. He did this four times, and it took him perhaps two minutes. When he was done, he turned to me and said, “Well, that’s it. I’ve just earned twenty-five thousand dollars. Let’s go to lunch.”

>He was smiling, but he was also absolutely serious. His point was that plenty of collectors wouldn’t know the difference between his two-minute art and the paintings he really cares about. They were just interested in buying his name.

>I’ve always felt that a lot of modern art is a con, and that the most successful painters are often better salesmen and promoters than they are artists. I sometimes wonder what would happen if collectors knew what I knew about my friend’s work that afternoon.

>The art world is so ridiculous that the revelation might even make his paintings more valuable! Not that my friend is about to risk finding out.

Man, what a great writer.

I make a comfortable living off art. I am able to afford a car, vacation twice a year and will purchase a house next year. (i have just shy of 6 figures saved for down payment)
No I will not inform you how to succeed as my competition. Go do some furry commissions or some shit.

>art is only worth something it took a really long time or a huge effort!!!!!
i knew this fuck was dumb but damn
>>
>>8060602
Of course this grifter is entwiend with the grifting scene in the art world. Reminder that anytime you see some really expensive "modern art" piece it's pumped up by insiders for the purpose of tax evasion (donating the inflated asset to tax deductible causes as a writeoff).

Tell a story, get a following, sell them stuff.

Work for indie or fake companies or sell prints and merch at conventions. I do both and have been living comfortably off of my anime art for a few years now.

I don't even like the guy, but is that seriously your take away from the story?
