>>8060440I’ll never understand why they slack off on the shading. Western illustrators are supposedly used to shading everything whether in traditional art, painting, comics, etc. yet in animation, they’re incredibly lazy. Does it really cost that much money to add shading to animation?

>>8060497It does cost a ton of money because even if it takes ten seconds per frame there's something like forty thousands of those in a movie but it's mostly because some designs just don't work when you start shading them, the same way most cartoon characters have about six angles that work and every other is cursed as fuck if you start shading stuff too seriously even those six angles will look fucked up sometimes.Take Peter's chin testicles for example, if you threw any more Loomis at him he'd be stuck with a dark triangle on his neck almost all the time and you'd be waiting for some cutaway gag explaining how he got it from a gay orgy with the ghost of Orson Welles and a horse in a horse costume that never comes. and the cutaway doesn't either.
