Really good artists are 1 in a million. No matter how much you practice and study the vast majority of people would never be able to draw like this. You would be happy if you had even 10% of this talent.Life is unfair like that. Some people just have a brain which fits to art.
nice badly rotated image bro
>>8066585i that kim jung un's work? did kim il sung predict tung tung tung sahur?
>>8066585who would want to draw like that lol
Why do people still think it’s inherent talent, plenty of people can draw this image , his technical ability isn’t even what made Gi a great artist. It’s a lot more than 1 in a million , drawing is a very common skill, speak for yourself, thinking like this and I’m sure you’ll never reach 10% of this
>>8066585>No matter how much you practice and study the vast majority of people would never be able to draw like thisThat's a good thing
>>8066595What made him great was that he was able to draw a huge volume of visual library without any sketching and references. Most people would be happy if they could this with even 1 subject. But he did it with tons of stuff. He basically could draw anything and make it look good.
>>8066585fancy doodles.wouldnt call it art frankly
>>8066594me>>8066585>10%yeah i would. i’m happy living the process, since i love chasing the greats, it’s so damn fun. i can’t think of anything that lights me up more than reaching after my art heroes, and, (in revisiting their work over time,) finding through ever-more intricately layered understandings that the measureless potential to make really wonderful things is its own blue sky.
>>8066585millennials will look at this and say "peak"
>>8066636It is pretty peak considering he did this without sketching and references. kim jung gi was some rare freak of nature
>>8066636And how would (You) describe it?
Weird, this video just came across my timeline. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kfa7vfYc5ck&pp=ygULa2ltIGp1bmcgZ2k%3DIt's honestly starting to feel kind of gross how all these art grifters are milking his corpse. Like it's transcended from honor to exploitation.
>>8066636this doodle slop is boring, hard to do without sketching and from imagination but it all looks the same and is so forgettable.
>>8066585I love KJG’s art. I own a book of his. But an anon here put it perfectly when they said his work holds no social value. Like Starry Night alone holds more social value than anything KJG has ever created, and it’s mostly because KJG made *so many* drawings, fitting tons and tons of drawings onto a single page-collage after collage- that his art became so much about technical skill and less about making the viewer actually feel something. That’s why his work is forgettable- because his work never has any focus- it’s just basically A brain dump. Van Gogh focused on nature. Davinci focused on anatomy and machinery. Kim Jung Gi focused on…everything.
>>8066673So he's shit because he made "too many" drawings? What the fuck? What kind of ass retarded reasoning is that?
>>8066680I wouldn’t say he’s shit because he made too many drawings- I wouldn’t say he’s shit at all. By too many drawings, i more so mean too many drawings on one page- which takes away from the focus of a particularly subject
>>8066636Its not bad for a sketch but there's a lot more to be desired sketch wise. But nailing everything in your first try is already crazy.
>>8066680ever heard of scarcity or supply and demand? in terms of the art craft his stuff is impressive because it's really hard to do, but in terms of artwork it's boring, samey doodles he kept slopping out.
>>8066653kitsch, tacky, etc
>>8066681>i more so mean too many drawings on one page- which takes away from the focus of a particularly subjectThis. Theres always too many characters and things going on in most of his drawings. It really just becomes background noise.I also think another thing making kjgs art kind of unappealing, is characters are often facing away from the viewer, or they are in odd angles you don't really see people from often. You makes you feel distant. And I feel like because of all of the detail, his compositions suffer. Clearly in this pic >>8066636 Vader is supposed to be the focus, but my eyes are hopping all over the place trying to look at the other characters and detail. And weirdly in this drawing, he drew simple stylized fire or smoke below the horse, which brings my eyes there, but its just an area of nothing. Its distracting, because everything else is so detailed and is more realistic.
>>8066673kjg was a performance artist. That's what he focused on. That's what made him unique. Barely anyone in the world could do what he did on that level. And his style was wild and chaotic which made it only more impressive. He didn't draw simple pictures. He drew big scenes with tons of stuff to look at.He probably also could have doen carefully planned paintings if he wanted to but why would you do that when you also can stand out by just doodling? He definitely has his place in the art world.
>>8066779Fair point. I agree that he has his place in the art world and is definitely very important, i just wish there were more to his legacy than “just doodling.”
>>8066786I understand what you mean. To me he was just the pinnacle of being able to put 3d objects on paper. I never was a big fan of his taste or subject matters. I also wouldn't be very interested in reading a comic by him. Bu the way he could draw literally anything from imagination was definitely wild. That's where his strength was.
>>8066789Yeah his ability to draw from imagination like that was insane, I agree. I look up to him in that regard. It’s fascinating how someone’s mind can conjure up such detailed imagery to begin with
>>8066702>but my eyes are hopping all over the place trying to look at the other characters and detailOne of the most insanely retarded critiques midwits dish out to art.>W-w-where I am supposed to look?Everywhere you pseud brainlet faggot. It's not a movie, you have all the time in the world to explore and absorb entire drawing.
>>8066664You just take it for granted.
>>8066798imagine how much better his art would be if he took off his self-imposed handicaps.
KJG is really not that great of an artist. Imagine if we were talking about food instead: you walk into a Michelin star restaurant that’s raved about by the public and find that your meal isn’t anything to write home about. The presentation isn’t fancy, the flavors are pretty standard, etc, but you look around and hear everyone raving about the genius chef. “What an amazing guy! He memorized all the recipes!!”
>>8066885That's a really shitty comparison. You can't even really memorize what he did. His sense for perspective and proportions was somethign you can't really learn. When you can draw anything you want in perspective without sketching then this isn't just simple memorization anymore. You need a special kind of sense for perspective and anatomy.
Really good anything are 1 in a million. This is how we define really good, as exception of the most.
>>8066913Doesnt apply to art because its a craft
>>8066898lol no. It’s not that you can’t do it, but that most people don’t know how, or don’t care to learn, or simply don’t want to. For 99% of artists memorizing a bunch of knick knacks isn’t even on their radar. There’s also a bunch of copycats now like Dongho Kim who can perform the same gimmicks
>>8066673>Like Starry Night alone holds more social valueOk, then, what is the social value of Starry Night?
>>8066793this nigga sucks at composition >>8066898>His sense for perspective and proportions was somethign you can't really learn.Yes you can? He has plenty of clones who do the same thing. Everything kjg did can be learned by anyone, it just takes years, and the patience to draw all the details.
>>8067007This. Westerners would rather think that KJG had special mutant powers than accept the fact that he learned and expressly trained hard at memorizing forms in perspective.
>>8066955It’s one of the most famous and influential paintings of all time- that’s the social value.
>>8067154So your point was that you thought less of him once someone pointed out that he doesn't have singular piece that's as well known as one of the most universally recognized pieces of art?
>>8067406I don’t think less of him- that’s not what I’m saying. What I’m saying is that his work doesn’t carry the social value of something such as Starry Night because his work is so- wild. Like his work doesn’t appeal to your average person. It IMPRESSES the average person, yes, but it doesn’t hold most people’s attention as well as paintings such as Starry Night. This goes back to my previous point of legacy building- KJG built a legacy as being an amazing artist that could draw from imagination like nobody else but if someone said “name a famous Kim Jung gi piece” what would you say?
>>8067406I can't even remember any of kjgs pieces. I've seen /beg/ art on ic thats had a long lasting impression on me. It's unfortunate but kims detailed pieces were his downfall. It's hard to remember a piece when theres a million characters doing a million things. I feel a big reason he doesn't have a famous piece of art, is because honestly, his art is just not appealing.
>>8066585ok cool, but what are you going to do about it?not draw?not create art?
