I need some advice on painting.

Dunno why, but by just practice, I've come to the conclusion that you need the following textures in a digital painting.

Need to review if my intuition is correct and these are enough for a digital painting.

>AO layer
It's a soft gradient, painted with a soft brush

>Hard shadow
It's basically a pen brush, meant to draw the toon shadows

>Specular
It's a toon shadow, but for the highlights of things like haird, oiled surfaces and metal

>Inner lines
These are drawing inner lines

>Toon shader half
This is like a 3D toon shadow but makes the shadows to be darker and blueish

what do you mean with "toon shadow" and "pen brush"? penbrush = hard brush?

You dont want to paint, you want to make illustration, hence all those renderslop question
