I took an IQ test a while ago and got a score of 87. Is that too low to ever become a good artist? I love looking at art and would love the ability to draw art but I'm afraid of being too stupid to grasp or understand things and never becoming good.

Yes, you can. I met some people that were illiterate in their own languages and still managed to be strong artists.

Yes. However, you have to approach practicing differently. I am also retarded so it took me a long time to realize I shouldn't imitate the practice methods that geniuses or even average IQ individuals do. It's effective for them because they have the pattern recognition ability necessary to get the most out of it. It's like Rock Lee trying to learn ninjutsu; it's impossible.

Things like master studies, figure drawings, still lifes, etc. feel pointless as we're doing them because they are. If we do these raw, which is to copy the subject as closely as possible, we are going to have a very bad time. Again, this style of practice is only really effective for geniuses because the practice largely involves using pattern recognition. Geniuses are able to see the nuanced, less obvious patterns as they're copying and take mental notes of them for next time.

"Mileage" is a term often thrown around as advice; do something enough times and eventually things will click. Which makes sense given that with a large enough sample size, the patterns which geniuses could see at a glance could eventually be seen by the average person. The thing is, if us retarded people blindly follow this advice we are also going to have a bad time. The sample size we'll need is many times over what the average person needs to achieve the same result.

That's not to say we shouldn't do the aforementioned methods of practice, we just need to be very intentional with how we do them. Like Rock Lee, we need to be hyper-specialists if we ever want to be great.

yes, art is mostly motor skills after all.

I honestly doubt it, but I don't have any proof (other that the dumbest regulars hare also improve the least).
Are there known simpletons that good very good in the craft? Proko is probably at 100 IQ. Volen CK is probably slightly below it, but he also failed.

You will never do anything new, so yes, you can. Your low iq might not be a disadvantage after all; you can always just be a liar. Otherwise, you might have to look at a list and think really hard about something that isn't something already made, porn or shitposts for a while.

Don't get too hung up on IQ. IQ is merely a measurement of problem-solving aptitude in the context of a timed test. Your results are not the end-all be-all of everything you can do, especially because you can manipulate your results by taking the test multiple times (fun fact, this is the secret behind Jewish and Chinese demographics frequently boasting high IQ scores). Your results are also determined by external factors like your health, age, vitamin intake, stress levels, and how much sleep you got.

If you truly are concerned about your IQ, you should work on improving your general well-being before taking an official MENSA IQ test or doing the next best thing (https://openpsychometrics.org/tests/FSIQ/). I've heard that the iodine in seaweed is beneficial for IQ, so you might want to start eating that.

Drawing is not that difficult to learn. Here's what I typically suggest that /begs/ do.

>break down photographs and references into simple shapes, then do your best to draw them from memory
>observe simple cartoony references (Pokemon, Kirby, Sonic the Hedgehog) and then draw from memory
>(from animators) spend 5-15 minutes each day just sketching simple shapes and forms
>make sure to draw with overlapping continuous lines rather than chickenscratch
>gesture, composition, and line quality trump overly complex perspective (avoid DrawaBox)
>do timed gesture drawings (there are many sites you can use for this)
>do an ambitious drawing (no references allowed!) then take note of what you suck at, study what you suck at, then find your references and do the drawing again
>make simple sculptures with plasticine clay
>copy your favorite artists
>draw big and small
>draw with your shoulder and elbow

If you're specifically interested in drawing people, this is your toolkit:

>study the skeleton
>study clothed bodies
>study nudes

If you want to improve at drawing heads/faces, you're going to need to draw a lot of them. Get a plastic skull (or use a 3D model) to study and you'll get faster gains than if you didn't.

Here's a daily habit you can use on areas you suck at:

>draw something from memory but from various angles
>find references and spend time making copies
>hide all of your references and draw from memory
>take out the references and make more copies
>draw from memory again, and compare your results

Then use what you've studied in a project. If you don't do this or if you fail to get enough sleep, you're going to struggle.
