We used to do that too, back in the 20s and 30s. All the cool neon Art Deco and Streamline Moderne, the Futurism, and the concrete and fiberglass buildings that looked like ducks, hot dogs, dinosaurs, giant cups of coffee. America used to do cool stuff that delighted the general public just to flex. Now all that is mostly gone. The boomers grew up with it but didn't continue it, tore down most of it and reolaced it with cheap bland boxes and billboards.
