>>221803858Of course. Whenever english randomly pops up in manga it's always weird grammatically or just.. odd.
>>221788556Your Japanese is too awful to be worrying about ら抜き言葉, spend your time studying basic grammar instead anon.
>>221803858easiest way to learn is to use the language.play or watch something and do lookups as you goalternatively, look for a workbook or practice testswriting or speaking helps even more but comes with two caveats: the need to figure out the exact words to convey what you want to say, and the fact that mistakes will stick in your head
>>221806110Don't recommend tests, that shit sucks. Just reading vns and supplementing that with anki is enough to really push things forward. As for mistakes, I don't think they stick forever. At least in my experience with english. Though then again you need to have someone to speak to unless you want to go crazy talking to yourself.
>>221806259I like jlpt practice tests. they're a nice way to gauge your progress.>ankiworks with semantically transparent words (車, 定規). needs quite a bit of extra work for the ones that aren't straightforward. e.g. せっかく, とにかく, Verbて損した (doesn't exist in English per se), 見返り (vs 仕返し, 報い. remember the JLPT tests word usage). and it also doesn't help much when you need to look for specific phrases and shit ("a long time" can be 昔, とっくに, 久しぶりに, 長い間, 長い年月, etc.)>Though then again you need to have someone to speak to unless you want to go crazy talking to yourself.tons of ways to do that>keeping a diary (make it dumb and simple. just an excuse to write shit like "today I met with a friend. we had a few cold beers at the bar and drowned our sorrows")>writing an informal vacation postcard, status update on social media, or something (typical textbook writing prompt. again, don't fret over making it too authentic. it's an excuse to use the words you know). if you're too autistic and get too worked up over sounding unnatural, literally dig up real samples and copy-paste from there>practicing grammar points. e.g. このカメラ、写真の画質がいい代わりに消費量が激しくてすぐ切れます. This camera may take great pics, but the battery goes flat in no time (missing: its battery consumption is off the charts)>find conversation template (shop clerk, hotel reservation, doctor's visit), make your own. really tough since you'll have to deal with keigo and shit (e.g. またのご来店を心よりお待ちしております)
>>221807335>消費量がバッテリーの消費量が

>>221814808>>If they find... I'd get into troubleyou can't mix those conditionals (present, would+infinitive). You have to say "I'll get into trouble" (if + present, will + infinitive. i.e. 1st conditional).Examples of mixed conditionals are>1. "If I had been born rich (past perfect), I wouldn't be working right now (would+infinitive)". this example shows the progressive aspectContrast with the usual 3rd conditional: "I wouldn't have had to get a job" (would + perfect infinitive)>2. "If I didn't love you (past simple), I wouldn't have married you (would + perfect infinitive)"You can't really turn this one into the 3rd conditional ("If I hadn't loved you...") as it would make no sense (it would imply the person speaking does not currently love their spouse)The second conditional (If I didn't love you, I wouldn't marry you) also sounds off. One would expect "I wouldn't be marrying you" (implies the wedding is due soon).-------------As for "sleepover", that can be misinterpreted as a slumber party (お泊り会/パジャマパーティー)My attempt>If they find out I'm an adult, I'll be in some real trouble.>I have to keep pretending I'm an elementary schooler until I retire. Or else.>Hey, wanna come to my house after this? We can trade stickers![Note: my place is not wrong, but I picture kids saying my house for some reason]>Hold it, she's coming to play with me!>No, with me!>Please, don't fight...-------------->seven years later...>Wanna stay at my house tonight? I got my own place now <3[Note: using house to avoid repetition. "My home" sounds off. "My residence" is wrong (wrong register)][Note: "I got" is more colloquial than "I've got" and "I have"]>Uh, uhm...>Hey, no that's no faiiir. I'm coming too <3>Me too <3>Uhh...I deviated a tad (I got my own place now. I.e. found a place to live, presumably alone)Also, not sure about punctuation (ellipsis in "seven years later...", period before or after the hearts)

>>221817852Conditionals are clear cut. The difficulty lies in mapping them to Japanese>zero conditional: always happens. generally used for rules (e.g. game rules) and laws (as in 原則)If you heat up water to 100°C, it boils. (Note: Normally. No weird shenanigans in vacuum or high pressure environments)>first conditional: predictions. unlike the above, it does not establish a generalization (i.e. it doesn't say it happens every time)The meeting starts in 15 minutes. If you go out now, you won't make it in time. (Given the current circumstances, you are unlikely to arrive on time)>second conditional: for hypotheticals. I.e. things that haven't happened yetIf I had a million dollars, I'd buy a mansion. (But I don't have a million dollars)>third conditional: for hypotheticals in the past. I.e. speculating about possibilities in the pastIf I hadn't flunked the test, I wouldn't have failed the course. (But I flunked it, so I failed)You then have the mixed conditionals I quoted above, which mix the 2nd and 3rd conditional
>>221822217>2nd and 3rd conditional2nd and 3rd conditionals

is there a way (a trick) to understand the kanji meaning, when it has like 20 different meanings in english?https://jisho.org/search/%E5%B7%AE%20%23kanjithis is what i'm talking about as an example. there's so many different meaning, but there has to be some sort of common meaning to this word, that japanese people just get naturally? or am i wrong?
>>221830577You learn which meaning is the most common one with time (by reading/listening, not doing anki), for 差 it's difference. With no context anyone will default to that meaning. With context it's way easier to figure out the actual meaning. Don't learn words outside of sentences by looking up random kanji, it doesn't work. Words need sentences and context for you to meaningfully learn them, anything else is masochism non-consensually bestowed upon you by the ankidrone population.
>>221830743that's honestly not something i wanted to hear, but thanks
