Why doesn't South America have a bigger tourism industry?

Southwestern US states are majority Hispanic and they travel back and forth to Mexico. You can't drive to South America. As soon as they fix this, more united shartians will drive there.

Tourism depends a lot on your neighbours; having big populated and at the same time rich countries nearby can bring you a lot of sheckels. Europe is the peak example of that.

In south america we have big countries with a very low density and we're surrounded by middle-income countries. Not the best combination for massive tourism.
