For whatever reason, the assassins of our most famous presidents tend to be unusually handsome.
>Left is obviously Oswald, right is Lincoln's assassin

Well obviously it's been colored up and what-not. but the camera quality of that era is surprising more higher resolution than a lot of people would think. I remember when I visited the American Civil War Museum in Richmond, I was genuinely shocked regarding exactly that. I mean, like the photo on the left, obviously a lot has been touched up, but seeing the photos plastered when initially walked in I genuinely did a double take because of it, especially considering how gory all of it was, obviously.

That picture of Lewis Powell is colorized obviously but it's a wet collodion large format on a glass plate so it's going to be high-res more than your standard 35 mm just because of the bigger format, but even then wet collodion and daguerrotype photos were noted for their extreme high resolution.

>Wired magazine features the 1848 waterfront daguerreotype in its August 2010 issue. "The panorama could be blown up to 170 by 20 feet without losing clarity," writes Julie Rehmeyer. To reach that level of precision a digital camera version would have to record a staggering 140,000 megapixels per shot. The total stitched-together panorama contains nearly 9-billion pixels.

200 years ago Americans really thought giving guns to everyone was a good idea.
