I remember when I visited the American Civil War Museum in Richmond, I was genuinely shocked regarding exactly that. I mean, like the photo on the left, obviously a lot has been touched up, but seeing the photos plastered when initially walked in I genuinely did a double take because of it, especially considering how gory all of it was, obviously.
