Have you ever heard of Pontus? It was a war-torn Greek core region in Northern Anatolia. Their descendants still call themselves Roman to this day.Its history started around 3000 years ago with the first trading ports until its fall during the Greek genocide when the Turks and Laz people killed them.
Yes, Turks tried to genocide them just like Turks did with literally every other single ethnicity they've ever encountered ever.

>>221860716Not much as an origin story, that role is taken by Colchis and Diauechi->Iberia. But Modern day Georgia is more or less a Roman/Byzanitne product. Colchis/Lazica was practically always part of the Hellenistic world and later became integral part of the Roman Empire. And Iberia also got Romanized heavily and after the Persians abolished the ancient monarchy, followed by Arab invasions, the new kingdom of Iberia in medieval period started off from the parts of Georgia that were integrated in the Byzantium. As a result, Church was Byzantine, Traditions were Byzantine, Monarchs bore many of the Byzantine courtly titles, later Imperial titles when they got involved in the Third Rome autism, fall of Constantinople was considered a national disaster that was compared to the darkening of the sun.But I wouldnt say that many (at least at this point) consider Byzantium to be a origin story per se. I'd place us between Greeks and Bulgarians on that spectrum:
