Why don't Americans use public transport?

There is none in most places in Weimerica.
>>
Low density, high traffic.

I use Amtrak sometimes. I like it. But apparently it's slow as fuck and not that great but I've only ever used public transport in the US so I don't really have a frame of reference.
Cars were unironically one of the worst things that ever happened to America. Had they not been invented or taken off, America would probably have the best rail system on Earth par none.

Americans are too fat

the nyc metro has millions of riders every day dumb fin

I just don't because there are gross dirty people on it all the time and it doesn't go directly to many locations i go to, so takes more time than just driving.

Because it does not get us from point A to point B in most cases.
>is there a bus near where you live?
Unless you live in the city already, probably not. Unless you live exactly next to a bus stop or train station, you need to commute to public transport which defeats the entire purpose.
>but uh just commute anyway
And park where? They don't build parking lots near train stations in most cases.
>just live in the city
Live next to high crime and minorities? No thanks.

And to make matters worse, where ever it is you are going - the point B - probably has a parking lot and isn't near a bus stop or train station either. There really is no point in public transport in the US.

Most of the country would have to give up detached housing for it or increase pop density. There's an argument for condensing commercial centers, but you'd need to wash out local businesses or let state effectively take them over with loans. Also many states in the US aren't 100% compliant with the feds, some local governments aren't even compliant with their state and wouldn't want Amtrak/government to seize control over their transit.

We have condensed commercial centers, they're called malls and they have been in decline for decades.
