Istanbul is a semi-popular destination for women because it both sounds exotic, yet is close and affordable to visit. Turkey itself is viewed as being a bit wild and half-developed. Turkish soap operas were popular for a while, at their height, some insane women named their kids after characters from the Suleiman the Magnificent series. The average normie doesn't spend any time thinking about the Ottoman conquests and there's no hard feelings related to them. There's a couple Turkish pastry/cake/dessert shops around the city here that are popular. Kebab isn't very popular.
