Not that weird if you know Russians try to get influence in all countries even those, I would say especially those that are rivals of each other. Most people don't know but Russia gave weapons to Croatia during the 90s, when they were embargoed by the West and Yeltsin decorated Tudjman.Also Luburici one of the ustasha leaders in WW2 wanted to make a deal with the Soviets during the Cold War. Russians can still use panslavic and far-right stuff to get in the minds of some Croats. Since contrarian far-right are anti-EU/West they tend to side with Russia. Also I know deep down Russian despise core Balkan people like us, Serbs, Bulgarians and Greeks for being "swarthy" "Turkish/gypsy-like", and they actually seem to like former Austro-Hungarians better
