Canada has never really had a great leader, most of our prime ministers have been sleazy lawyers who left office in disgrace. Lester Pearson was probably the best, although he is mostly respected for things he did prior to getting involved in the cesspool of Canadian politics.

He was probably far from the "best" president, but he's my favorite mostly because he was was just a boorish midwest bumpkin who just kind of lucked into becoming president during one of the most significant periods of social, technological and geopolitical realignment in human history. And also he was funny as fuck.

It wasn't perfect, and people will say he cucked for the soviets too much, and that he was too power hungry etc. etc. At the end of the day, things just worked under the iron rule of Kekkonen. Most problems could be solved with a phone call "Yes, mister President!" Now we are so bogged down in formality and rules it's not possible and decisions take years.
