>Medieval brits thought roman ruins were built by giants
>>
Stonehenge predates Rome though

it predates celts too, made by neolithical pre-IE, likely related to basques/aquintanians

I'm talking about roman ruins specifically
>>
>>221908533
I looked up some Basque origins myths and apparently their lands were inhabited by a race of giants who built megalithic structures.

Specifically early Anglo-Saxons who arrived after Rome fell are said to have thought this in the 5th and 6th centuries, which is at the very cusp of late antiquity/early medieval (or the dark ages if you prefer)

Once they Christianised this was no longer the case, since the churches retained the knowledge of Rome.

a city like bath must have looked crazy to an anglo saxon peasant
