>>221918824>is it a lie that America is the country where dreams come true? Is climbing the social ladder easy? Just answer from your own experience. It really depends. America has incredible social mobility from the upper class to the upper-upper class. People born in the top 10% are significantly more likely to rise to the top 0.1% than they would be in any other country. This keeps the elite class "fresh", whereas in other nations most 0.1% people have 0.1% parents. There is debate to be had as to whether this is a good thing, though. Increasingly it appears the newly-made elite feel significantly less responsibility to the rest of society than the old elite. New money are brazenly hedonistic, maintain bigger public profiles, and tend to more aggressively make attempts to reshape society than old money. Jeffrey Epstein, for example, was part of new money, and the vast majority of his clients were too.As for the other 90% of American society, they are kind of stiffed. Social mobility there is probably worse than it is in all Western European countries. Low wages, rising cost of living, and expensive college tuition lock the vast majority of Americans out of real social mobility. It's theoretically possible if you work 12 hours a day, save a ton, and don't develop any major health issues, but that's just not a realistic standard to hold the average person to.

>>221918824My life has been easy, even thought my folks were lower-working class. Enlisted in the USAF out of high school, got a guaranteed specialty (ATC) and completed 7-level school, got out after six years and direct-hired by the FAA. I'm 32 now and making $110k.year at a regional airport with low traffic counts.I'm not wealthy, I'm middle-class, own a home. You hear horror stories of people making money living in a van in a large city. That is their choice. There are plenty of houses once you get away from the coasts, but people would rather starve in a big city than live in "flyover country". Again, that is a personal choice. If you have half a brain and are willing to put in some effort, there is no reason on earth that you cannot make enough to live in comfort. There are still plenty of excuses though.
>>221918824The parts about making money are true, but the parts about climbing the ladder either require clairvoyance, insider knowledge, or luck. Like if you just stumble into a skillset that becomes very in demand ahead of the curve you've basically made it to the top, but there's this delusion that an individual can influence the market when that's just not the case at all. Steve Jobs didn't make the market, he just happened to have an answer for a sudden surge in telecomm demand. If your dream is to make money for a stable technical or trade job, retire early, then travel/pursue some hobby then sure it's there, but if it's some delusion of grandeur you're going to need connections or start getting involved with the military.
