Like everyone in Australia "learns" Japanese or Chinese or whatnot in school but since we never expose ourselves to content from those languages continuously it's all for naught and dissipates over time. Your 4th grade English grammar would also have atrophied and been useless if you hadn't kept using English outside the classroom.
