In high school I was friends with a North Macedonian kid who was a very staunch nationalist, had the flag (pre-design even though this was well afterwards) on everything, loved bragging that his people were descended from Alexander the Great, hated the Greeks for trying to take it away from him, hated the Bulgarians for denying his identity, hated Turks for being colonizers. The whole routine.I thought this was weird at the time but as an adult have come to learn it's just standard dumb Balkaner antics. What I didn't find weird at the time that I do now is that he had a Muslim name and was always conversing with the Albanian kids in their language.
We don't have many of them, fortunately.
