On 25 September 2019, the French interministerial Digital Directorate assessed in a technical audit report that Qwant's dependency on Microsoft Bing was at 64%.[87] During a Bing API outage in 2024, Qwant stopped showing results, indicating that Bing provided a substantial portion of Qwant's results.[88][89]
>>
>>222032019
That's my qwant.
>>
>>222032019
People may laugh but little by little we should wean ourself off Big American Tech. I'll 100% use European alternatives if they're "good enough"
>>
>>222032019
I think the EU should replace Windows with some Linux based European OS
>>
Cool it with the antisemitism
>>
>>222032019
It actually uses Mistral now for AI queries.
I used Qwant back in 2019 and lasted 3 days before switching to Google. Last year I lasted a few weeks before switching to Google. I guess it's improving but you can't beat the Google Jew.

Qwant sucked last I tried it. I pay $10 / month for Kagi and it's very nice. Google is still better for local results though.
>>
>>222033507
We're already swapping to Linux apparently. That's at least one based thing Macron will have done
>>
let me qwant that

Eurogays lol

Most used result will be “google”

We're doing tech stuff now ? Wow it's time to say goodbye to my Minitel !

>damn these Americans forcing people to use their tech
>anyway, you VILL use le French google, le French ai and you VILL worship le empereur

It's not like the rest of Europe tries anything. Whenever we try something you all reject it because it benefits us.
Frexit, simple as, fucking done with the EU.
>>
>>222033957
So, you like to keep getting cucked by americans? The next time trump has a rant they'll may throw your country under the bus
>>
>>222033600
Redpill me on payable search engines, do they bring you better results?
>>
>>222034019
I mostly use it for codecel stuff and it gives better results than Google. It also has nice features like promoting / demoting / blocking domains, blocking AI generated images from search results etc.

Interesting, thanks finn-anon.
It seems that paying for well-made services might be a solution to evade the shits of the internet. I'll look into it.

I wish German government agencies used Suse Linux. We have a domestic German enterprise Linux distro, but there are no serious efforts to adopt it.
>>
>>222034434
because Linux sucks and it's for nerds

kek that's exactly what they sound like
>>
>>222034000
Reality is that it’s too late, people will say “well it’s better to wean ourselves off it” yeah but any half decent programmer will be swallowed up by yank companies who can pay triple (or more) than Europe, this is without getting into cloud infrastructure which is also mostly American as no one else invested in it and if there is a Euro version it’ll be overpriced and shit
This is all like an inverse China, they push for 80% as good at half the price, Europe is 80% as good at double the price
>>
Which french ai i can use for erping in sillytavern doe
>>

Le Big Baguette Computer™
>>
>>222034712
>it’s too late
no it isn't. You need the political will, but if that was there, you could switch to a national Linux distro as standard OS or a national search engine too. Sure it would be behind the American alternatives but it could catch up. It would take time, but it could work. Look where China was 30 years ago and where it is now.
>>
>>222035208
AI is also the best tool to build alternatives.
>>
>>222033957
Maybe the ziggers were right when they said that the UK was an "extraterritorial floating base of the U.S."
>>
How has it taken this long. The internet isn't a toy anymore, it's a way of life, if livelihood. How have they let a company manipulate that. They shouldn't even stop there, there's way more cleaning up to do

Your economy is yank tech companies dodging taxes

looking forward to seeing Ireland's economy completely and utterly fucking destroyed once all major American tech companies are kicked out of Europe.

fuck ireland.
>>
>>222037244
They're Irish. It's nothing new to them. There's nothing the US can do to us that we haven't done to ourselves many times and worse.

I remember having a duel with a Swede in the countryside near Stockholm. I had offended his fiancée, and he challenged me to a duel. I won, and he was buried on his family estate.

not at all, it's definitely better than Gemini in not completely making up answers

I had Qwant as my default search engine in my browser for 6 months but I found myself having to manually visit Google to do searches too often because Qwant had too many issues so I switched back. I switched back in February or something so this is quite recent and I doubt they have improved it since.

>>222032019
This is anti-semitic. I'm reporting them to Google's shareholders.
>>
>>222034144
Paying to have AIDS is pretty funny, I'm imagining a future where it's like another Cloudflare, the same company spamming highly indexable slop images charges you to block them from your results

20+ years too late.
Needlessly splitting up the tech ecosystems even further isn't the solution
>>
>>222032019
It is extremely hard to compete with American tech because they have the infrastructure and deep capital markets. Google makes 100+ billion in profit every year, they have all the people, endless cash and the infrastructure already built to quickly make a service in no time
Whatever is the next big thing it is guaranteed that US companies can quickly copy it

>>
>>222049145
+ European tech salaries are really laughably low. Tech is one of the few industries where if you get a good job in Eastern Europe it might not even worth to relocate that much. At least to Austria and Germany, the tech market sucks there badly
Having like 3 times the GDP only to have like 25% higher salaries in tech that basically cancels out with the cost of living differences is just really bad state of affairs
If you get signed at some major American company you get a stock bonus that is like a yearly salary in West EU, there is no initiative to do tech in Europe the same way
>>
>>222049254
Don't forget the stillbirth startup scene.
>>
>>222049313
I think the start up scene is somewhat overrated because it is not really about tech but capital markets. The rest of the world simply cannot afford or not willing to throw away that much money to experiment
+ a lot of startups are just borderline exit scams and their aim is to get bought up by a large tech company. The current head of product at Twitter is a really good example of this. He made some chat app, advertised it to teenagers that blew up and sold it to Discord then they shut it down then he made the exact same application and sold it to Facebook and they immediately shut it down too lol. A lot of startups are just scams like. Companies like Athropic and OpenAI and many of these that ended up succeeding were not the typical garage startup but very well connected people with access to billion of dollars in funding. Not the typical startup situation as people imagine
