I feel like les misérables is kind of overrated. Hugo literally spends page after page with his expositions and describing the scene. Personally, I like Honoré de Balzac and Dumas better. Although I haven’t read Hunchback of the notre dame yet.

Recently. I had to read the Alchemist for my mom’s book club (because she didn’t want to read it). It was ok but I felt it was too spiritual and idealistic

Forgot to say the book is pretty disappointing. It is over filled with useless and instantly forgotten exposition. Percy does do Southern culture justice and the New Orleans he describes is immersive.

It's about wasting your life hoping for something that will never come.

>>222076159
Just wait until you reread it years later and nothing has changed.
>>
>>222076257
Its about an Italian officer who has been stationed at a remote fort near the border of the northern country. He doesnt want to be there and wants to leave but ultimately stays. He falls into a mundane routine waiting for the Tartars to attack.

The message is difficult to describe nut its about the passage of time, the fear of insignificance, and putting off one's life for a future that might not even exist

It really does deserve all the glaze it gets. It's an amazing read.

The Time Machine by H. G. Wells
>2: how long ago was it?
Like 5 days ago
>3: physical book or e-book?
E-book, there are more free digital books that I can read in my entire life, I dont need to get a physical book unless there is a special reason.

It was very straight forward and easy to go through it, basically no characters just a setting but I liked it and it was short.

>No audio books though, that shit doesn't count.
Fuck you it does count, Im almost done with the Second Foundation by Isaac Asimov
>>
>>222070506
Is it good? I like naval books. I read Mr. Midshipman Easy and it's quite based.

I did see both the 1960 and 2002 right after I finished the book, they both shit on the core idea of the book, that is that rich people pushed poor people to live underground to work the machines and they built paradise for themselves above ground.
They are scared to recognize this part of the story but still want le classic scify story or something so they made up dumb reasons as to why the human race split in two that doesnt work as well.

La noia by Alberto Moravia
I'm reading it right now, I'm halfway through it but I had few moments to read judiciously this week. Also I'm reading again after near to 2 year of not reading literature. It's very interesting, a lot to think about, not buying the whole thesis of the novel but the author speaks some truths.
I'm reading a scan that was uploaded in archive dot org..

It's a reread, one of my favorite books of all time. It's not that easy to describe what it's about, especially if you want to avoid spoiling anything. If you are interested you can check out this page for the blurb on the book and what other prominent writers think about it.

https://www.ndbooks.com/book/the-obscene-bird-of-night/

With that said, I highly recommend the book.

>1: What is the most recent book you've read in your country
plato’s symphosion. I liked it, I wanna read more plato in general, he’s very entertaining even in terms of pure style. I also liked how you can see some of the ideas in symphosion that later get more developed in polis. But right now I’ve started Iliad, so Plato will have to wait.
>2: how long ago was it?

I read it as a kid but I don’t remember much. I think it was incredibly popular like 20 years ago though.

Interesting topic. Is it good? Is it a purely historical book?
