Bangkok is actually a district in the city and not the name of the city itself.
Many, if not most, of Thailand’s prime ministers have been Chinese.
You drive on the left side of the road for some reason.
There’s a Malay minority in the south of the country that’s been fighting a low-level insurgency against the government for decades.
Thais and Laotians are basically the same thing.
You hold the world record for number of new constitutions or something like that.
>>

>Bangkok is actually a district in the city and not the name of the city itself.
That's like saying the City of London isn't London tho.
>You hold the world record for number of new constitutions or something like that.
Kek that's something even I didn't know. Thanks I guess.
>>
>>222078697
Overview Bangkok’s official name is Krung Thep Maha Nakhon (or simply Krung Thep, meaning "City of Angels" in Thai). The name "Bangkok" originally refers only to a small district on the west bank of the river, but foreigners adopted it as the name for the entire city.Locally, the city is known by its short-form, Krung Thep, rather than Bangkok. However, its official ceremonial name holds the Guinness World Record for the longest place name in the world.

Apparently its for southern Thai while northern Thai live in China

>>
>>222078721
You used present tense. It's not a district anymore. There's a Bangkok Noi and a Bangkok Yai district but they're both part of the 50 districts of Bangkok/Krung Thep which is a city designation.
>>222078741
Somewhat. In English you use the word Tai to designate the bigger group so that it's not confusing, but there's no such distinction here. We don't really understand each other thoughever.
>>222078791
No one has ever heard of that and from what I read it doesn't really correlate to reality.
>>
You take off your shoes before entering any place
You have some sort of draft lottery for high school graduates
Thailand is multi-ethnic nation which has taken over the North and South, especially northerners sometimes still have their own language and even Royal family
You're one of the most hardcore monarchies in the entire world
Your whole history is just fighting with Vietnam while Cambodia got fucked over

Yes, though in practice, anyone middle class or above can send their sons to this cadets reserve-training thing a few weeks a year for three years and they become exempt.
>northerners still have even Royal family
Ok I've never heard of this.
>You're one of the most hardcore monarchies in the entire world
Kek not anymore by a long shot.
We used to stand up for the royal anthem before movies and now people literally stay sat.
A lot of shops I go into exclusively keep up pics of the previous king and never the current one, though government buildings still have to have them.
If not for lese majeste laws we would be practically closer to Sweden or Japan than to say, Saudi Arabia.

I can guarantee you no one here below the age of 40 except absolute chuds reveres the monarchy at any level above what you give yours. The culture gap myth is getting annoying. Thais are not mentally different from Westerners.
>they
They who?
>>
also longest continued royal line I believe
>>
>>222079289
why is it annoying? wouldn't you be proud to have a unique culture?
>>
>>222079316
1. Uniqueness is not a virtue
2. A culture that makes it impossible to criticise those in power is antithetical to prosperity and innovation
3. The reverence for the monarchy was explicilty designed by the royal family and the Thai state to duplicate 19th century European royalist-nationalism, and isn't really unique to our culture in the first place

I don't like dumb exotic stereotypes that we're a mystical people who worship our kings as gods, believe deeply in ghosts, are still villagers at heart, etc.
Westerners like to think this to make us seem unique and guarded from the world but we are just as urbanised and globalised as say, South Koreans, for better or worse.
In chuddy /pol/ terms we are in effect no less "globohomo" than any other first world country. We have the same culture wars, gender norms, debates, style of media obsessions, etc. We also have low fertility rates and are outpaced by local Muslims in that sense.
It's not really about good or bad but accuracy.

How come people eat very spicy soups in very hot and humid weather?
Are you masochists?
>>

In the past people traveled to thailand for ladyboys and underage pussy.
But nowadays people travel with family to thailand and for cheap elaborated tattoos.
Do you feel sad that ladyboy culture is vanishing? Do you have reactonary movements that demand to go back to lady boy traditions?

Allegedly, triggering sweating through spicy food actually helps your body cool. Idk how much of that is actually true. I think it's just a matter of preference.
Personally I don't eat nearly as spicy as average Thais because at some point numbing the tongue just ruins the taste of the food.
>>222079823
>In the past people traveled to thailand for ladyboys and underage pussy.
No one here talks about this or likes this.
>But nowadays people travel with family to thailand
How is this bad?
>Do you feel sad that ladyboy culture is vanishing?
It is not.
What kind of delusions do you live under to think we hate family tourism and want more sex tourism? Personally if I was in charge I would ban sex tourism. It's never what Thai culture was about.

When I visited Thailand in 2014 I thought that Thailand's medical system, public safety, and street cleanliness were as good as Japan's
Where does the source of the Thai people's ability to maintain society in the most orderly way possible come from?
All of the neighbors near Thailand became commie and African tier shithole
>>
>>222080073
Head start. No colonization and locally directed development.
Many foreigners ask "why are we so developed" but in fact we tend to ask ourselves "why are we so behind Japan?"
The question doubly applies with South Korea since we had coups, dictatorships, and US Cold War influence too yet are behind in many metrics.
>>
>>222079915
You really are very westernized. Sad how the mighty have fallen. I wish you many african immigrants.
>>
>>222080162
We do have many many immigrants who have taken over the labour force but they come from nearby countries, which makes me question in the first place why your governments didn't do the same thing, but instead bring in so many from faraway countries which brings culture clash issues.
But anyways this is going off-topic.
>>
>>222080432
We also have many people from Eastern Europe. In fact even more than of any other immigrant group. But also them suffer from non existent birthrates therefore the supply is not unlimited. However muslims and african shitholes are completly devestated by incompetence and stupidtiy with an infinite supply of young men to take on a welfare life.
As long as capitalism prevails we are destined to be fully replaces by niggers and muslims.
