>Transylvanian Romanians had more Romanian-language schools under the Austro-Hungarian Empire rule than there were in the Romanian Kingdom itself. Thus, for example, in 1880, in Austro-Hungarian Empire there were 2,756 schools teaching exclusively in the Romanian language, while in the Kingdom of Romania there were only 2,505 (the Romanian Kingdom gained its independence from the Ottoman Empire only two years before, in 1878).[71]
>The process of Magyarization culminated in 1907 with the lex Apponyi (named after education minister Albert Apponyi) which expected all primary school children to read, write and count in Hungarian for the first four years of their education.

this "Lex Apponyi", which Slovak and Romanian nationalists like to bring up in Hungarian hate threads was in effect for less than a decade, and even then it was less coercive than contemporary policies elsewhere in Europe (no mass child removal or total bans like in France for example). in reality its enforcement was hampered by legal protections for minority schools, rooted in the 1868 Nationalities Act and strong church autonomy. most minority schools were confessional (church-run), which retained substantial rights to use the mother tongue as the main language of instruction.
>>
>>222095038
>threads was in effect for less than a decade
okay but not because Hungarians were so nice and cancelled the law but simply because Hungary lost the war and non-hungarian territories

and anyway, my point wasn't about discussing that issue deeply, i actually admire the Kingdom of Hungary and think it was a great country, even if it had some minor flaws, nobody's perfect after all
>>
>>222095038
magyarisation of names started early than this and the political pressure was doubled by social pressure. all in all your flaw was your educational system because if you want to assimilate minorities you make this by educating them. this what soviets learned from tsarist era. anyway hungary mogged us hard, I don't deny this
>>
>>222095445
>because if you want to assimilate minorities you make this by educating them.
Hungarians just had different experience, you know, in 896 they invaded the Pannonian Basin with a small group of horse archers and within several decades all local Slavs and Vlachs already spoke Hungarian. They thought this is a universal rule and works in every period. It's not easy to get rid of old customs
