Not related to Americans but I just want to vent in a somewhat thematically related thread. Some time ago I had to hold a phone conversation with a manager of a certain large trip booking service who was a jeet. We were trying to resolve an issue and he said "hey hey buddy listen to me" and that made me fucking furious and I lost all spirit of cooperation and my goal shifted from resolving the issue and moving on to fucking over that jeet in particular. Who the fuck calls someone they don't know "buddy", let alone in a professional setting? I find that disgusting. We didn't drink together with that fucking suresh to be buddies

Being social is expected here. We're humans not robots, and if you don't like the conversation or don't want to have one, you can easily signal that. Chances are most people aren't going to bother you anyways, because the big cities where you're all likely to visit are also full of people who recognize that privacy is a commodity and aren't trying to constantly interrupt you. It's why they say nyc is the greatest city to be alone.Go out to some bumfuck town in Nebraska and it's a different story. Everyone and their mother will want to talk to you.
