No. It never does, in either school or the work place.Specifically with teachers and highschool, I found many were the type to seek approval from the students. They wanted to be "popular" with the kids. They weren't going to side with a bullied kid. The difference between a high schooler and an adult emotionally is not much. If the teacher was not very popular at school, they will yearn for this as an adult. It's a bit like the "cool parent" phenomenon. Usually it is because the parent wants approval from their child/childrens friend group because they didn't get it when they were younger.The other majority group of teachers are those who just view it as a job/paycheck and don't take it too seriously. For these types, your just creating more work for them. It's the same people you manage kicking work up to you. You don't care the reason, it's just annoying.

I did have regular friends so I know for sure that I wasn't a complete asshole. I also learned well and finished uni so it's not like I'm retarded. I did find out years later that some kids feared me and it wasn't even my intention, one of them actually told me in high school and became a friend I hang out with to this day.

Fighting back is fine if the kid that's bullying you is a random nobody and not the son of a guy with connections. In my school there was a bully in a different class who was basically invincible because his dad was rich because he was a member of the biggest political party in the ruling government and owned a huge business in town. Obviously that type of kid has a huge ego and he was always surrounded by a bunch of sidekicks who were trying to sponge off of him.
