Happens iyc? It's pretty common here.
>>
typical murican sociopathy if I'm tbqh with you
>>
I think people who kick their kids out at on the very day they turn 18 are going too far but in general kicking your kid out at that age is a good thing. I experienced it first hand. Because of that I was already working and living in an apartment before I even finished my first year of college. Then look at people who stick around with their parents after 18 - so many of them are bums leeching off their parents the whole time they're in college (if they go at all) and when they have to finally get a job or a place they're completely lost on what to do. It's embarrassing.
>>
>>222259476
My parents never kicked me out and now I have my own apartment as well. The whole building actually because my dad gifted it to me as a wedding gift.
>>
>>222259426
In Canada you stop getting government money when the kid turns 18 so a lot of parents literally can't afford to have the kids keep living at the house anymore.
>>
>>222259476
My parents did it too, but they sent me straight to the military with no prior preparation or work experience. It went exactly as you might expect it.

>>222259497
>here son, have this apartment building for your birthday
Damn, and I was just happy to get a bike or something.

But they can afford to have the kids living at separate house or apartment? I don't get it. I thought your property price is sky rocketing?
>>
>>222259782
the kids pay for that separate house themselves. you know, by getting a job.

You can't get a job and stay at parents' house? Just pay rent to your mom.
>>
>>222259860
that's stupid. if you're gonna pay rent you might as well live in your own place so you can jack off freely in the living room and such.
>>
Im 29 and almost always lived with my parents. I have a degree and a masters and certified in a specific trade as well. Been working for years.
I simply refuse to pay half my salary in rent. I have a lot of money in my bank account. Wouldn't have a fraction of it if it were for having to pay rent.
Also i love my mum so much she's the best. We get along really well. With my dad too.
That said it's time for me to move. I kinda regret not moving out sooner. You kinda feelike an eternal child.

Reminder that multi-generational households were the norm for most of human history until the 1950's when boomers decided they didn't want to live with their parents or children. The very concept of nursing homes is insane, especially when you consider how much they cost.
>>
no shot that i would ever take care of my parents in their old age. their welfare is their own responsibility.
>>
>>222259426
no one can get a house here so everybody has to stay with their parents or pay 1500 euro rent to Mr. Jodenstein to get a scruffy apartment (no pets allowed, please buy flooring yourself)
>>
Once your mother pass 65 she becomes a child so, dad becomes grumpy and just inverted. Best advice is move as far away giving a good excuse.

Getting kicked out on your 18th birthday is something that I've only seen happen to white people. I'm Chinese-American, and unless I needed to move somewhere far away for work, the expectation was that I'd live with my until I got married. I lived with my parents until I could afford to buy a house. I lived in that new house for a few months, but got lonely. I didn't use all the space either. So I rented out the spare bedroom to a roommate. But then I discovered that I don't like living with him. I also don't dislike him enough to evict him. So I moved back in with my parents, and rented out my new home's master bedroom to someone else. Accidentally became a landlord with an income property. Thinking about turning the garage into an ADU to rent out to another person.
>>
>>222260338
>65
No, old age really hits in their 80's. 65 is young, relatively speaking.
>>
>>222260412
White Americans have been taught to be hostile to their in-groups and kind to outgroups. Boomers will gladly let their housekeeper stay in the guest room for no charge, but kick out their own children the first chance they can.

my father and my first step mother made me leave the house immediately after birthday cake and blowing out the candles on my 18th birthday.

It was my step moms house so my dad had to go along with it but if he owned the house he would have done the same thing. I was a terrible teenager back then and I have only grown into a much worse adult.

I had it coming because of my poor behavior and I would kick a kid out at 18 that acted like me and they only know about 1/10th of the horrible things I did back then.

So many other cultures encourage families to live together in perpetuity. They took care of you when you were young, you don't have to pay separate rent, you help out where you can and support each other in times of need. It feels like this is just amerilard indoctrination to pay more money to a certain group of people arbitrarily.

I was keen to leave the house as soon as I graduated from school
Studied, worked for a few years, then moved back into the house (it's a 3 apartment house) and now take care of my 95-year-old grandmother and, when she stops being self-reliant, my now 65-year-old mom

This is unusual and a byproduct of WW2 industrialisation. Before that, Americans still stayed together in extended families, just like in most other societies. The nuclear family is a mistake and is the root of a lot of social problems. Having your parents and adult siblings nearby is an essential safety net for your own family.

I lived with my parents ultil I was 32, at that point I managed to save money for the mortgage downpayment of an apartment.

Many people my age I know went to rent some cuck room very young because "only losers live with their parents", and now after years they are sill living in a shared flat with 4 other flatmates.

My parents supported me all through my late 20s. I did my 4 year undergrad degree from 19-23 where they bought the home I lived in and rented out the other rooms to my friends for cheap and then sold it when I graduated and actually profited. They did the same with an apartment when I was 23-27 and again made a solid profit as they sold it near the tail end of covid when I graduated.

I started off making low 6 figures but they still didnt kick me out, just asked me for $350 a month to help out with expenses which I paid without complaint. I lived with them for 2 years and was able to fully pay off my ~60k student loans and fully pay for a 30k car and saved up for a down-payment to be able to buy a 410k home at 29 (that has since risen to ~450k according to my mortage company). Its only 1.3k square feet but it's in an amazing location and I get $1,700 a month renting out one of the rooms to a coworker.

I love my parents and wouldn't be in this situation without their help. I bought my mom a peloton bike and my dad a new iPad with my first paycheck which they initially got mad about because they didnt want me to spend money but they relented and get tons of use out of them. I will also be taking them on a cruise in February along with other family although im just paying for my parents tickets. Although they are healthy and financially secure themselves i absolutely help them as they age if it's needed.
>>
>>222260964
Aha.
>>
>>222264694

>>
>>222259860

>>
>>222264694
Are you an only child or are your parents just rich?
>>
>>222260338
My mom is already older than that and she's doing fine by herself. My dad's more of a basket case, should retire already and not torture himself with his "career" that's already fizzled out.
>>
>>222264888
Obviously rich. I'm an only child from poors and this would never happen to me.
>>
>>222264888
I have a sister who recieved similar help with her undergrad but didn't do grad school and married and moved out shortly after graduation.

My parents are comfortable but truly rich is a stretch. My dad is a pharmacist (as am I now) and my mom works at an animal shelter. Their combined income is around $150k so above average but they still have to work
>>
>>222265131
Did they take out loans for the housing they bought you? Not many people have a couple hundred thousand lying around for that
>>
>>222259426
this but you can't afford the retirement home so your old fuck parents torture you forever and you are thankful one of them died so you only have to wipe one ass everyday
>>
>>222265369
They mortaged them, the house that was bought during my undergrad was a medium sized 4 bedroom 4 bath aimed at college students back in 2013 which was only like $120k or so? The down payment was maybe 20k give or take and the money they got from renting out the 3 rooms to my friends more than paid for the mortage and they charged well below market rate at the time (I think like $400 each?). I vaguely remember they sold it for 15-20k more than they bought it for. Even with the support they gave me they still ended up making money.
The apartment they bought in 2017 was somewhere around $60k and they ended up selling for $110k in 2021. There was only 1 other bedroom which we rented for 6 or 700 which they just let me keep to help with living expenses. Again they ended up making money from the ordeal even with the money spent supporting me.
>>
>>222265537
I will never not be amazed by how cheap housing is in america
>>
>>222265651
Those prices are nowhere near the reality now. The price of that apartment almost doubled in a few years during covid. The home im in now was sold for a little over 200k back when it was built in 2017 and I bought it early last year for 410k and had to bid against 7 other people. Housing is expensive everywhere in America nowadays outside of rural areas with no job prospects
