How to cope with living in India? (I'm serious). I have to live here until January when I move back to the USA. Every time I go outside I feel disgusted by the filth and horrible behaviour of the public. I have to look after my grandma so I have to take her to clinic and do groceries so it's impossible to stay indoors all the time.

Trash is a real problem. Big cities have garbage disposal facilities but a lot of people throw garbage in random places. We don't have good budgets for municipalities. Not enough workers.
Traffic is very bad because of dense population. Overcrowded public transport is not a meme, its real. Comes down to budgets again. Buses per citizen are several times less than optimal.
Slums and stuff are terrible for obvious reasons.
City planning is especially bad because zoning regulations are practically non existent and they are worded in such a way that construction companies get the most money. That's why it all looks like a hellscape with not one inch spared.
Essentially comes down to this

Couple years ago I think, a few students drowned because of flood waters because of clogged up drains. They juat arrested a random driver who had driven his SUV through the flood.
In essence civic bodies have neither the motivation nor the resources to make conditions liveable for the people and policies are also made so thar a few contractors and companies make the most profit.

I had just started to write about that when I hit the 2000 character limit. You can find a lot of armchair psychology about the mentality of littering. Here's my take. While municipalities has to established garbage disposal facilities, I could be wrong but there is no such obligation on the rural civic body the gram panchayat. There is no garbage collection, no disposal. This means that no matter where you throw your garbage its going nowhere. It is going to be blown away by wind and go all over the place. So people get into the habit of throwing their garbage just outside their boundaries. In public places there are no garbage bins because what are they going to do with the garbage bins? So no one gets into the habit of throwing their garbage into a bin. These habits stick, and they stick all the way to other nations too. Urbanites are probably better in this regard but most people in the city come from villages so not much of a difference.
Cities are one thing but I often want to *strangle* to *death* people who throw their garbage into water bodies or any sort of nature.
