why build nuclear if you can built renewables?

My country doesn't need nuclear
>>
>>222331841
I have no problem with nuclear power itself I believe the risk of major accidents is negligible and waste can be handled safely. The sticking point for me however is solar and wind are now cheaper, also nuclear power stations centralize our energy system and make it more vulnerable than wind/solar in the event of a war. Nuclear is fine in principle, but it's now obsolete tech. Maybe we should keep some power stations in a mothballed status for emergencies but that's it.
>>
>>222331946
because back then it was considered a very good idea and countries wanted nukes
>>
>>222331894
>security risk even more with the recent focus on drones
You can say that about basically any economic structure of any sort that isn't in a very deep underground bunker.
It's like saying in 1930, factories shouldn't exist in a country becasue they now can be bombed by airplanes.
>>
>>222331894
Well for starters nuclear is actually reliable and can be fed safely and at all times into the grid, unlike Solar and Wind, which both experience massive swings between peaks and troughs making them unreliable.
>>
>>222331894
Let me guess, you think they explode because you saw it happening in movies.
>>
>>222332005
Many countries with nuclear powerplants don't have nukes and it would still be very difficult for them anyway. Supposedly some of the plutonium waste can be used for that but they are not efficient in producing the type used for weapons.
>>
>>222332035
or you can just built power storage to save the surplus and have a very few fossile powerplants that can balance out the shortages

he's still wrong because germany just isn't great for renewables. my country is because we have abundant sun here, but for higher latitudes it's stupid to rely entirely on solar and wind.

Batteries are fucking horrible for the environment. Not just for the fact that they become toxic waste once they've lost their ability to store charge, but also because producing them requires intensive mining of rare earth elements to begin with, and because battery fires are damn near impossible to extinguish reliably. It's a terrible idea to use them on an industrial scale.
>>
>>222332470
In non-manufacturing countries (every firstie country) and even in manufacturing countries with corruption and fuckery they cost more energy to create, ship, build, and maintain than they will ever make in their lifetime. It really only takes basic math to figure this out.
The only exception seems to be hydroelectric dams. Maybe there is some promise with ocean wave power plants couples with desalinization or hydrogen production. Wind and solar are absolute failures in every practical implementation outside of China and I have questions about china too, but of course they only release information they want the world to see.
>>

>>
Why not have renewables and nuclear at the same time, or at least in the meantime until we can fully rely on renewables
You niggas have to start up your coal plants again every other day
>>
>>222332564
what if the power plant used a different kind of battery like molten salt
>>
Nuclear is great if you can afford to build underground, if you have a reliable source of water for cooling and if you can afford the investment.

The biggest downside is that it costs a ton and takes a long-ass time to get built to be safely put into use.

Whereas other renewables can be installed faster.
>>
green energy have numerous problems like storage for when there's a lack of wind and solar
nuclear is the best option
>>
>>222332602
you are a retard and your mother is the willing cumslut of filthy turks
>>
>>222331961
Hydro is also super efficient.
>>
>>222332612
Yes, it's called EROI. You can look it up, retard
>>
>>222332564
Bullshit. Batteries don't randomly disintegrate when they die. You can recycle the materials in a battery to make new ones. There are also battery chemistries which have extremely low thermal runaway risk. They are better suited to grid battery storage because they are less dense but more stabile. The mining is a non-issue.
>>
>>222331894
And who would use drones against us? The biggest risk for us is the lack of qualified personal/workforce keeping them running.
>>
>>222332533
do you know how much damage a dam can do? they can kill more people than any power plant could. it's just stupid and there's not much to gain from that kind of escalation.
>>222332564
there's chemistries that don't require rare earths and are made of very common elements. they don't have the same capacity as the fancy ones but it's good enough for energy storage. safety isn't a major issue either, you can make pretty stable batteries nowadays, even high capacity ones.
>>
>>222332624
Because all of the "green" energy business interests hate each other. Wind and Solar hate hydro and nuclear because they produce lots of power for relatively little investment and maintenance, unlike wind and solar.
>>
>>222332668
EROI is oversimplified and inconsistent and not enough to base shit on alone
>>
>>222332703
>Wind and Solar hate hydro and nuclear because they produce lots of power for relatively little investment and maintenance
Lmao are you trolling. Hydro is extremely maintenance heavy or else entire dams will collapse and kill millions. Nuclear on the cheap end still costs multiple billion dollars. It's literally the exact opposite.
>>
Idk and idc , if you get the nuclear power back please for the love of Hitler nuke the shit out of us
>>
>>222332673

I don't know about that. Hydro doesn't generate near as much power as it could. We have these massive reservoirs and they can only run when the reservoir is too full. Its a big project that takes up a lot of land and it doesn't exactly generate that much power. It's a few megawatts. a city needs thousands

Yeah I've read that they funded a bunch of green type stuff to limit Europe’s industrial power
>>

Can never tell with Europeans if it's bait or actual retardation
>>
>>222337504
Germans really are like this. It's a problem.

You really have no idea how batteries are made, how they work, or the levels of energy we're talking about here, huh?
We already use batteries, it's called a substation. That's not a solution for the entire local grid anywhere.

They must be stopped
>>
>>222331728
>we dont do that in germany…
>>
>>222337535
Actually... why?
I see no reason to stop them. Their loss of competetivness has already brought factories to Poland and other countries. We're getting jobs, contracts, capital, we sell energy. Why would we give a flying fuck if they want to ruin their economy.

it ALWAYS uses more power than it generates. no such thing as a free lunch

Historically what happens when you don't stop German autism? Poland you can speak first.
>>
>>222337671
you would have to employ like a million people to clean those panels off every day, or something like that. don't they have sandstorms?
>>
>>222337706
Yeah but this time the autism is directed inwards. It's like the country has depression and wants to kys. So idc what they do. And if they go crazy because of poverty and need to expand we're making cheap drones and planning to have a ballistic arsenal like Iran and also we're actually talking to (you) about nuclear sharing and on the downlow there's talks of an undeclared nuclear arsenal. But above all, I wouldn't bet a whole lot on modern german masculinity.
>>
>>222332146
Yeah but the power storage facilities could be the target of terrorist attacks, have you thought about that?
>>
>>222336598
Of course you cried to janny and my comment ahmedsson cause i found out your plan to sabotage and leak nuclear into the sea
>>
>>222337597
It's a method of storing power, not generating it, you fucking retard. No storage method is 100% efficient. The most efficient batteries we can make are around 90% efficient, while pumped storage hydropower is around 80% efficient. Considering the absurd complexity and resources requirements to produce lithium ion batteries compared to a fucking water pump, I think a 10% loss in efficiency is a more than fair trade.
