What can a lion actually do though? If you hug its hind legs it can't reach you with its paw, and its too sluggish to get away while you repeatedly pommel it from behind. If you stand to the side of its hind legs then it won't even be able to hit you with a back kick. If it raises its leg to perform a scratch then all you have to do is back off until it finishes its slam, then move back in to continue punching.

Most animals have very low endurance and get tired out easily, humans are almost unique in their ability to run for hours without tiring.

Even grizzly bears can be taken out if you know their weak spots, a good hard punch in the right spot can knock one out. Animals don't have humans' endurance nor can they plan or strategize how to win a fight.

Herbivorous animals are more dangerous than carnivores a lot of the time as many of them have extremely violent self-defense behaviors against predation.

>he charges
>gets one of my limbs
>lock in, finger his eye
>he backs up, i focus on the timing of me bleeding out
>offer whichever leg i have left for the next charge
>puncture his other eye
>elbow and knee him to death
would die eventually but i would get him first
