They were able to reap the rewards of their labour. The people who stayed behind in Turkiye were mostly middle and upper class. It would've been a win-win for both Germany and Turkiye. The companies didn't want to lose the low maintenance, low wage workers which they could exploit like literal slaves. They advocated for the workers to stay and to be able to bring over their families as well under the pretense of worker's rights.
